“I bet he has,” Faith muttered under her breath.
“It’s actually kind of crazy how fantastic it’s been,” she said, ignoring Faith’s comment. “He built me an arch, polished floors, set up an entire room by himself, and even steamed tablecloths.”
That seemed like a weird one, but Faith didn’t say anything.
“And, he’s actually the reason I could be here today.” Was that Faith’s imagination, or did her sister just blush a little bit? “He’s really stepped up.”
Like to be the man he should have been all those years ago?
She wanted to ask the question out loud, but she was wise enough to know that wouldn’t end well.
“Besides, it’s not like anything else is going to happen.”
Nope.It wasn’t her imagination. That was definitely a blush.
Which meant one thing…her sister was totally falling for Levi Langdon. Again.
It wasn’t until after they’d finished lunch, and her sister had run off with a hug and a quick kiss, that Faith realized she hadn’t actually told her why she was in the city.
She lingered outside the restaurant and contemplated calling Hope to demand an answer to her question, but ultimately, Faith didn’t bother. She knew that Hope would tell her. When she was ready, and not a moment before. After all, they did always tell each other everything.
Guilt flashed through her as she thought of Noah.
Well, maybealmosteverything.
She amended her earlier thought. They told each other everything that was important.
And Noah wasn’t an important detail. He was temporary.
Faith looked down the street toward her office and the direction she should be going before turning and walking slowly in the other direction.
No doubt the work would be piled up, waiting for when she got back, but as a paralegal, that was always the case. And no doubt she’d get in trouble. But it wasn’t as if Noah could fire her. Not without it being a wholething.
Everything was always athingwith Noah.
Faith shook her head a little. She really did have to break up with him. Of course, she’d said that before.
The thing was, she was starting to get a little worried that maybe she was actually falling for him.
And that was a problem.
With a sigh, Faith spun on her heel and headed back in the opposite direction.
The moment she walked into the office, a tingle traveled down her spine. She turned to the left, and sure enough, Noah leaned against his office door, watching her. As soon as her eyes met his, he winked and nodded his head at her.
She couldn’t help but giggle and, as annoying as it was, especially to herself, Faith turned away from her office and walked toward him.
“Mr. Simmons, can I talk to you for a moment?”
“Of course, Miss Turner.”
He held his arm out, welcoming her into his office, and smoothly shut the door behind him.
Faith walked straight ahead, and looked out the picture window in front of her. The moment she heard the door click shut behind her, Faith took a deep breath.
She turned slowly, determined to tell Noah exactly what she should have told him months ago.
Faith was barely facing him when Noah’s hands were on hers. And then, everything was out the window.
