“It’ll be a long night.”

“We’ve had them before.” He winked at her and she had to look away.

Mostly because of the annoying flutter his knowing look set off in her tummy. Which was ridiculous, because they’d never hadthatkind of late night together.

Instantly, an image of Logan’s naked body hovering over hers flashed through her mind. She flushed and her panties grew damp at the thought of having any kind of late night with Logan that involved him naked in her bed. After all, it had been awhile since she’d—no.She shut down her own thought. Maybe she had a little itch to scratch, but even so, Logan was the wrong man for the job.It would just—

“Wow. There’s a lot going on in your head right now, isn’t there?”

Faith blinked hard and cleared her throat in an effort to get back into the moment. “I’m just wondering how we’d…” She let the protest trail away. The truth was, a float down the riverdidsound good, and if it was going to make Stephanie Starz happy, even better. Despite the fact that she was their biggest potential client ever, Faith found herself drawn to the fiery redhead in a way she’d never expected to be. Not that she’d had any expectations about her at all really, except for the fact that her fame was massive and usually with that type of fame came a whole lot of entitlement and snobbery. But not with Stephanie. At least not from what Faith could tell so far.

“Okay,” she found herself saying. “Let’s do it. But just know we’re going to be absolutely exhausted.”

Logan grinned and gave her that look that made something deep inside her melt a little. “I’m totally good with it.”

The next morning, Logan launched kayaks for both Faith and Stephanie and helped them both get settled in the river. The moment he let go of their boats, he’d regretted it. He should have taken the old canoe out of the shed at his ranch for him and Faith to use. He couldn’t think of anything a whole lot better than some forced alone time with her. Unless that alone time was in a bed. But that would come later; he was sure of it.

He watched the two women for a minute, making sure that their celebrity guest was comfortable with her paddle before turning his attention to everyone else. Only a few of their friends had been able to join them on such short notice. Sarah had her daughter, Rory, and the two of them were handling a small canoe together. Damon, of course, had what looked to be like the most expensive, top-of-the-line kayak he’d ever actually seen. Logan tried not to roll his eyes at his new brother-in-law, who had more money than he knew what to do with sometimes, and went to grab his own old, beat-up kayak down from his truck.

“It’s too bad Katie couldn’t join us,” Logan said once he was in the water and paddling next to Damon. “She loves this stuff. “

“She does.” Damon dipped his fancy paddle in the water. “But it’s pretty busy in the shop and she’s still not quite ready to leave things to her new employees. Not entirely. She insisted I come, though, and I’m glad I did. It’s a beautiful day for a float. I don’t think I’ve done this since we were kids.”

It had been a long time for Logan, too. Despite living right next to the river, it wasn’t often that he found the opportunity to actually enjoy it. It was a detail that needed to change. Life was too short to miss out on all the fun. His gaze landed on Faith, who was paddling gently next to Stephanie, engaged in a deep conversation.

Life was definitely too short to miss out on that kind of fun.

“So.” Damon’s voice interrupted his train of thought before it could really take hold. “I was talking to your mom last night.”

Something in the way his brother-in-law spoke made him take note. “You were?”

Damon nodded, a small grin on his face. “We went over for dinner and of course you and Faith came up as a topic of conversation.”

“It did, did it?” Logan did not like where this was going. He knew Damon meant well, but despite the fact that he was married to Logan’s little sister, and the two of them had been friends since they were young, there was still tension between them at times. Most of it had been resolved when the truth about Katie and Damon’s relationship had been revealed, but that was only after they’d had a big fight that had left Katie in tears and one thing Logan couldn’t stand was watching his little sister in pain. The two of them seemed to be madly in love and Logan was pretty sure he wouldn’t have to worry about that again, but still, his big brother senses were always on high alert. “And what were you saying?” he asked after a moment.

Damon shrugged. “Katie was gushing about how great it was that the two of you had finally come to your senses and realized you were perfect for each other.” He looked over at Logan. “You know how she is.”

“I do.”

“And your mom was actually mostly quiet.”

Of course. She knew the truth.

The men had caught a current and the river was rapidly catching them up to where the women were paddling.

“Well, I don’t know what to say about that,” Logan said as casually as he could. “Mom isn’t one to be quiet about much, but maybe—”

“She kind of gave me the impression that she knew something.”

Logan’s head spun to stare at Damon, who grinned at him. His brother-in-law was starting to get on his nerves. Ahead of them, Stephanie had drifted back a little, and Faith and Sarah were leading the group.

“What would she know?”

Damon took his time answering. “I’m not sure,” he finally said as their kayaks caught up with Stephanie’s. “Just maybe that you and Faith were—”

“Aren’t they the cutest couple?” Stephanie gushed. “Sorry to interrupt,” she added quickly. “I wasn’t trying to eavesdrop or anything.”

“No, it’s fine.” Logan offered her a charming smile. He wasn’t going to let Damon and whatever thoughts he was having ruin what they were trying to do when it came to Stephanie Starz’s wedding. Never mind what he was trying to accomplish with Faith. “And you’re right,” he added. “We are the cutest couple.”
