“Anything?”

Faith shrugged. “Doesn’t mean I’ll answer.”

A few minutes later, Hope was settled into the bed and Faith had safely stashed the envelope under the mattress on her side of the bed. It wasn’t ideal, but she’d find a better location for it later.

She hopped up on her sister’s bed and grabbed an extra pillow to hug into her lap. “I’m glad you’re home.”

Hope smiled. “I’m glad too, but a little sad.” Her smile dipped. “This was supposed to be our big adventure.”

“I think becoming a mom will be a big enough adventure, don’t you?”

“I think so.” Hope laughed. “And speaking of big adventures…” She wiggled her eyebrows but Faith rolled her eyes and shrugged.

“No adventures here, I’m afraid. I’ve been working like a slave and that’s all I’ve had time for.”

“Bullshit.”

She should have known better. As much as she’d been excited to see Hope, she’d also known that her sister was going to be able to see right through her. It was annoying, to be sure.

“Because,” Hope continued, “that bite mark on your neck tells me you’ve been having at least a certain kind of adventure.”

“What?” Her hand flew to her neck. “I don’t have a bite mark!” She slipped off the bed and ran into Hope’s attached bathroom while she spoke. “I’m not a teenager. I don’t have—”

Shit.

“What were you saying?” Hope sounded as though she was only barely containing her laughter as Faith continued to stare at her reflection in the mirror.

It was true. How had she not seen it before? She had a hickey on her neck, just below her ear. It wasn’t hugely obvious, but clearly her sister had seen it. Which meant…

How unprofessional!

Had she worn her hair up at the wedding yesterday? Of course she had. She always wore it up in a twist to keep it out of her way while she was working. Which meant that every single person who she’d engaged with had seen the evidence of her…

Ugh.

“I’ve already seen it, Faith. Don’t even bother trying to hide it.” Her sister sounded downright cheerful.

“Glad I could entertain you,” she said as she returned from the bathroom and sat on the bed again.

“But what I really want are the details on how it got there.”

“What?”

“Okay, okay.” Hope laughed. “Maybe not all the details.” She made a show of hiding her eyes and shaking her head. “But I do want to know what changed so dramatically while I was gone. Because…this…” She waved her hand around. “Is definitely a change. You swore upside down and sideways that you were never going to have a relationship with Logan Langdon.”

“Whoa. This isnota relationship.”

Wasn’t it?

Faith shook her head violently. “He bet me that I couldn’t pull off the loved-up act to give Stephanie Starz what she wanted in a fairy-tale romance story for Ever After Ranch. I took the bet. If I win, he leaves me alone.”

Hope’s eyes twinkled with mischief. “And if he wins?”

If I win, you spend a night with me.

Faith could remember Logan’s words exactly. And more importantly, the exact way he looked at her, with heat in his eyes when he gave her his terms. The thing was, she’d already spent the night with him. Did that mean he’d won?

No.
