Two words, but they sent a shock wave of desire through him as he obeyed her command and entered her again, harder, until they were both moaning together as they jointly reached their peaks. And then they were crashing over the crest together, coming hard with an intensity that left them each breathless.

When he could think straight again, he bent and kissed her softly, hoping more than anything that he could convey all the things he felt for her, because he hadn’t yet been able to bring himself to say them aloud. She was more than a bet. She was more than a late-night fuck in the dark. So much more.

He reached up to brush the hair from her face but her cheek was wet.Was she crying?

“Faith?” Logan leaned back and rolled off to the side, but unwilling to let her go yet, kept one hand on her hip to hold her close. “Are you okay?”

Again, he wished for light so he could see what was going on on her beautiful face. But he wouldn’t leave her side.

“I’m fine.” She sniffed. “I was just…” She chuckled a little and her voice changed. “I guess I lost, Logan.”

“Lost what?”

“The bet.”

No.

“I lost.”

“You didn’t.” He laughed. “Quite the opposite, I’d say.” He let his hand travel up her body so his fingers could trace the side of her breast.

She relaxed under his touch briefly before tensing. “I did,” she said. “I lost. I can’t pretend anymore. It’s not right. Stephanie doesn’t deserve to be lied to. It was one thing before we got to know her, but she’s sweet and she’s our friend and…I lost. You win.”

He won.

Logan let that roll around his head. “So that means…”

“One night,” she said, reminding him of his terms should he win the bet that he’d only made to get close to her in the first place. “That was your prize, right?”

There was something in her voice he didn’t like. Something that sent alarm bells ringing.

“And you got it. We’re even. I’ll tell her the truth in the morning.”

ChapterFourteen

It had been an incrediblylong night. Faith had never been so aware of another person’s presence than with Logan lying right next to her in the bed. She knew she’d been terrible. Hurtful and mean and…she regretted everything almost immediately.Everything.

Saying what she’d said. Having sex with him.

Ugh.

That had been wrong, and she knew it even at the time. When she’d come to bed, she’d had no intention of that happening, but it was almost as if the moment he’d opened his mouth to talk to her, as though he’d been concerned about her, something melted. It was selfish and wrong and it only made her feel even worse about everything, but in that moment, she’d just needed one more time with him. One more opportunity to feel the way he made her feel. It wasn’t fair, and she regretted it deeply.

But mostly, she’d regretted ever letting herself feel anything for Logan in the first place. It would have been so much easier if she could have just kept hating him.

No. Not hating him.

Being annoyed by him?

Keeping him at arm’s length?

Dammit.

It didn’t matter. Shedidhave feelings for him.

But it couldn’t work.

She’d come to that conclusion after leaving Hope earlier. Everything her sister said should have changed her mind. It should have made her realize that shecouldallow herself to have feelings for a man. And maybe it did. But with Logan? He didn’t feel the same way. She was nothing more than a bet to him. A challenge. A conquest that he could add to his list. Maybe she was ready to start opening up her heart, but she knew enough to know that she still needed to protect it, too. From Logan.
