He handed them over and ran his hands over his face.

“We’re also supposed to go down to the registry and see what the problem is with the license,” Levi said as he opened the door. “But first, I think you need some coffee. And maybe a breakfast sandwich. You don’t look…” He waved his hand in search of a description, but Logan wasn’t interested in his cousin’s assessment.

“Whatever.” He got in the passenger side of his own truck and slammed the door. “Drive.”

ChapterEighteen

The ceremony was lessthan an hour away and still, Faith hadn’t heard from Logan or Levi about what the holdup was with the marriage license. She’d tried not to worry Stephanie with the details of it all because the poor woman was stressed enough about everything. After her freak-out earlier, she’d broken her own rule of seeing her groom before the wedding and gone to explain the photo in the tabloid to Dax.

Not that he’d seemed very concerned about it. In fact, he’d thought it was funny. His exact words being, “Like I’m actually worried about a tech geek stealing my woman.”

Faith wasn’t the only one put off by his choice of words; Stephanie, too, had looked annoyed. But the moment Dax told her how much he loved her and pulled her in for a kiss, everything seemed to be forgotten.

Maybe Logan was right. Maybe he was just a really good actor.

But it also might be the stress of the wedding causing him to act a little strange. She may not have been doing it for long, but Faith had seen enough brides and grooms who were normally very chill and easygoing turn into crazy people on the morning of their big day to know it was a real thing. Weddings, no matter what size they were, even the tiny, intimate ones, were stressful.

Which was why she really didn’t want to have to tell Steph about the license issue. But no marriage license meant no actual marriage. It was definitely an issue that would have to be sorted out.

There was no putting it off any longer. Faith grabbed a bottle of prosecco and a few glasses and headed upstairs to find the bride-to-be.

She needn’t have worried so much, because before she even got all the way down the hall to Stephanie’s room, she could hear the laughter and when she set foot inside, instead of being greeted with a sobbing, stressed-out mess, Stephanie was laughing along with something Hope had said.

Hope was settled into the armchair by the window, looking quite pleased with herself.

“I guess we don’t need this after all.” Faith set the bottle down, but Hope waved her hand.

“Are you kidding? The bride always deserves a few bubbles before the ceremony. Unless of course she’s…” She rubbed her tummy and winked.

Faith couldn’t argue with the logic, so she set about opening the prosecco and pouring both herself and Steph a glass. They had a quick toast before Steph excused herself to use the washroom. The moment she was gone, Faith turned to her sister and raised her eyebrows in question.

Hope laughed. “Hey, I’ve had a little bit of experience calming down frantic brides,” she explained. “I’m definitely not new to it.”

“A fact I’m super glad of. She does seem a little on edge with it all. Maybe it was a bad idea to do it so quickly after Dax got back? I mean, they haven’t even seen each other for a month.”

“Not your call, sis. I know we’ve gotten to know her and she’s our friend, but she’s also a client and you don’t get to make those types of decisions. You need to know where the line is.”

Faith thought about it for a minute. She also thought about the information Logan had shared with her about Dax. Wherewasthe line? And where should she be on it? The wedding planner side? Or the friend side?

If it were her…

The idea made her laugh out loud. It wouldn’t be her. Not now. She couldn’t think about Logan.

“Hello? Faith?”

She blinked hard and looked back at her sister, who was waving her hand and laughing at her. “I’m here. I’m listening.”

“You were thinking about Logan?”

“What?” She crossed her arms and turned away. “No. I was not. Why would you say that?”

Hope only laughed. “You were too.”

What kind of freaky twin thing was going on?

“I wasnot.”She spun on her sister and barked the words. “Why would you even say that?”

“Just a guess.” Hope looked quite pleased with herself, which only pissed Faith off even more. “Because the two of you have been extra weird the last few days, and I just assumed that after we spoke about…well…what happened to giving it a chance?”
