I nod.
And when he presses his warm lips to mine, I can’t help but whisper the words that will seal my fate forever.
“Give me your control.”
CHAPTER22
Mateo
I keep lookingover the contract Dare signed, half expecting it to dissolve into thin air.
With the exception of his testing, everything has been filled out and then some. Some areas have been highlighted and tabbed with post it notes, Dare’s messy writing asking questions or making comments.
I swipe my phone up, dismissing the notification as a knock on my door pulls my attention.
I turn to see it is my sister.
“Hey, a bunch of us are headed out to get something to eat, you want to come with?”she asks.
I nibble on my lips and she catches my gaze.
“You okay?”she asks.
“I should be asking you that question,” I murmur as she enters the dressing room.
“You know traveling always gets to me,” she says softly, coming to sit beside me.
“Mhmm. And Richie Wylde hasnothingto do with your mood as of late.”
Hailee shrugs, but she does not deny it.
“Same wayDarehas nothing to do with yours.”
I can’t help but chuckle at the reality of the situation.
“Must be something in the Wylde DNA.”
Hailee laughs, and I can’t help but laugh, too.
“You really like him, don’t you?”she asks softly.
A sense of relief falls over me, and I can’t refute her truth.
I look at her, feeling exposed in an entirely new way.
“I think I might be in love with him, Hailee.”
Hailee purses her lips.“Love is a good thing, Mateo. It’s not all heartbreak and sad songs.”
Something tells me I’m not the one she’s truly trying to convince.
“Sometimes, you just need to take a leap of faith.”She forces a smile.
“Is it you who can’t jump, or him?”I ask, not beating around the bush.
“Me,” she replies quietly.
I wrap my arm around her, pulling her close.“You deserve someone who makes you happy, Hailee.”
