Suddenly I heard Wrath call out. “It’s time to go, Luna. Come out now.”
I froze up, unable to answer him. Standing over the railing, hands on, staring at the bedroom door, I watched it open, and Wrath stepped in. His eyes darted to me, and he rushed across the room as I let go of the railing.
His hand caught mine, and I dangled there, above the pool of clear snow meltwater while he glared down at me with those blue-white eyes ringed in the deepest black I’d ever seen.
“So they were right. You are a danger to yourself.” He hauled me back up with one hand and placed me on my feet next to him as he glared down at me. Before I could say anything to defend myself, he spun me around and cool plastic locked around my wrists. A breath later, I was bound, hands behind my back as he lowered and locked my ankles together as well.
“That’s fine. We have a nice place for you all picked out.” He turned me to face him, and I glared at him as he quickly covered my mouth with tape and lowered his shoulder to my midsection. He lifted me like I was an overlarge sack of flour and I struggled to get free of him. I stared over the edge, wishing us both over it through sheer force of will. But it didn’t happen.
Instead, we walked out past Draco, who silently told me there was nothing he could do.
I didn’t believe that for a second. Nothing hecoulddo? Or nothing hewoulddo? Big difference.
“See, your family found out about your plan to escape and disappear. “ Wrath continued talking like someone was listening as I ran my tongue over the tape, loosening it bit by bit. “Since there’s no logical reason you’d want to run away, they realized there must be something wrong with you. So they said you’d be just as safe in a facility.”
He laughed, stepping out the front door and swinging it closed behind him, giving me one last glimpse of Draco before the door severed my view of him.
Please help me. I can’t go back!I practically screamed the thought at Draco, but he merely whisper-thought back,I can’t help,I’m sorry.
I struggled, and Wrath nearly dropped me. But he quickly recovered and adjusted my weight on his shoulder. He tossed me in the back of a car, and I stared up at him as he closed the door behind me. The locks engaged and I realized it was like a cop car with a metal mesh separating the front and back seats, so even if I got free I couldn’t grab the wheel and steer us into oncoming traffic.
He got in the driver’s seat, chatting the whole time as I worked the tape the rest of the way off with my tongue. It hung from one side, but my mouth was free. I laid on my side and brought a knee up to my chest, pressed it to the tape to pinch the sticky strip between my leg and the seat, and ripped it off my mouth.
“You’re like a bad Disney villain, detailing your plan gleefully while not realizing there’s still time to undo it.” I shook my head, hating the sticky feeling around my mouth where the tape had been.
Ha laughed. “Oh, you’re so precious. See, there is no undoing this.”
I let out a snort and kicked the metal grate between us.
He didn’t so much as flinch, but he did keep talking. Yay. “You’re going away, and no one will see or hear from you again. You’re the family’s dirty little secret now, and obviously you’ve had a mental break. So they’re going to get you the best treatment available.” He drove quickly around the turn and onto the main road, sliding me all over the back seat.
“Feel better now?” I asked with all the sarcasm I could muster. “Now that you got all of that out of your system?”
“You’re a feisty one. I thought for sure Draco would have claimed you. If he was smart, he would have.” He let out a dark chuckle. “Hell, I might try you. For fun.”
My stomach twisted. If he even tried to come at me, I’d cut off whatever he was working with. “I bet it’s so small I’d just think a mosquito was getting carried away. Guys with big dicks don’t need to talk as much as you do.”
He laughed again. “You’re trying to bait me, little girl? That’s cute.”
I gave a mocking laugh. “Not as cute as your tiny penis. What kind of punk-ass bitch has to zip-tie a girl? Think I’m going to hurt you?”
He glanced over the seat at me. “I might hurt you. But no, you’re restrained because I know your secret. I know how much you want your freedom.”
He knew? But how did he know?
His brows lifted and he gave a mocking nod. “Oh, now she’s putting it together. Aww, so adorable, like a fawn taking its first steps.”
I didn’t say anything. Could he read minds just like Draco? No, because then he’d know the truth about Draco and I and how we’d… been intimate. So how did he know? Draco wouldn’t have betrayed me. Not like that.
“Oh… you haven’t figured it out. Well, maybe some time will help.”
I knew he was fucking with my head. Psychological warfare. But how did he know? I’d been so careful to cover my tracks. My getaway plan wasn’t known in its entirety by anyone but me. Other people had bits and pieces, little parts, but not the whole scope. I’d done that on purpose to protect myself in case my father’s offers ever became too tempting for anyone who’d helped me out along the way.
But Wrath talked about it like he knew everything. How could he know all of it? Unless he could read my mind. Or if Draco had told him.
No. Draco would not betray me like that.
But he had betrayed me.
