“I understand that. But can you be civil?”
“I’ll be on my best behavior.” He smiles sarcastically.
I roll my eyes. “Thanks.” I look to my watch, and I realize we’ve been gone for a good while now. “We better get back.”
I zip my suit back up. “We good?”
“Yeah. We’re good.”
I smile and gently push his head. “Love you, punk.”
“Punk?” he says. “I’ll show you who’s a punk when I beat your ass going back down this mountain.”
“That’s a bet,” I say, grabbing my helmet.
Chapter Thirty-One
Kathrine
I hear the sound of the bikes coming back in, and I stand up from getting me some Great Dane loving.
“Go on and meet him out there,” Lee says with a grin from the rocking chair. He holds a glass of sweet tea in one hand and a cigar in the other.
“I think I will.” I smile back at him before making my way down the steps.
“Stay, boys,” I hear him say, and I turn to see both dogs now on their feet but obeying their owner. I take in the vast property as I head out to the shop, crossing my arms when the two walk out laughing.
It’s a sight and a damn good one.
Bryce has his gear unzipped, his white undershirt showing, the top half hanging around his hips as Jace walks beside him in nothing but boxers.
I put my hand over my mouth to keep from laughing. Jace is a good-looking guy, but in a boyish way even with the beard he’s trying to grow. I look back at Bryce who looks mouthwatering in dirt bike attire and sweat. His all-white teeth are showing as he shakes his head at Jace. He turns to me, and his eyes light up.
Which makes me smile more behind my hand.
“Hurry up in the house.” Bryce scowls at his almost naked brother.
Jace winks at me as he walks by. “Sorry, Kat. I know you’re terribly disappointed you had to see all of this.”
I slap his arm just as Bryce grabs me, lifting me up over his shoulder.
“Ahh,” I squeal.
“Come on,” he says before taking off running toward his car.
“Where are we going?” I ask now that my world is upside down.
“You’ll see.” He opens the car door.
“Bryce, y’all be back in time for supper,” I hear Emily yell from the screen door.
“Yes, ma’am,” he calls back before climbing in his side. He presses the clutch, and she roars to life.
I wave to Emily and Lee and a half-naked Jace as Bryce steps on the gas, sending dirt and gravel flying up from his back tires. I grab theoh shit handle, and I can’t help the laugh that comes from my chest.
Bryce grins at me as he flies down a dirt road, unlike the one we took coming in. He shifts gears smoothly, and I can’t keep my eyes off this carefree side I’ve never seen before.
He looks younger.
