He nods. “You look great, kid.” His eyes grow watery and I narrow mine.

“You’re not getting all sentimental on me, are you? I’m not about to walk down the aisle or anything.”

He rolls his eyes. “Thank God for that.”

“Hey,” I say, frowning.

“Kidding. Come on. We don’t wanna keep the boy waiting.”

“Right behind you.” He nods, exiting the room. I look over in my mirror, making sure my makeup is good and my hair is all in place. I spray the curls one last time before giving myself a nod.

“Let’s do this.”

I walk out of the room, my dress shuffling as I make my way down the small hall, and then I turn the corner. Hale is ready with my camera like I asked him to be and Trinity is smiling. She helped me with my hair.

And then I seehim.

He’s handsome as hell in a black suit and matching tie. He looks roguish, with thick hair he tried to comb, but it’s obvious his hands ran through it. He’s nearly breath taking.

His eyes bounce down my body, and he grins ever so slightly in approval.

“All right, let’s snap a picture,” Hale says.

Danny hands me flowers instead of a corsage. That’s Danny––always going by his own rules. I take them with a smile, and he pulls me close as Hale takes some pictures of us.

“That good?” Danny asks.

“Good,” Hale says. I grab the digital camera Danny bought me instead of the Canon and slide it into my small purse so I can get some photos of us throughout the night.

“Be good,” Hale says. “Don’t do anything…stupid,” he tosses out. Trinity hits him with her elbow.

“We’ll keep it PG,” Danny says with a wink, earning a look from me.

“Be home before midnight,” Hale says firmly.

“Okay,” I say.

We exit the house and Danny stops, looking at me. “You look beautiful, love.”

“You don’t look so bad yourself.”

He gives my lips a kiss and we head to the car, where he opens the door for me. I climb inside, making sure my dress doesn’t get caught in the door before he shuts it.

The ride is filled with small talk and music, and once we get to prom, Danny is the perfect date. We slow dance and I introduce him to some friends, and then we see Samuel.

He walks over to us, and I feel the tension radiating off Danny.

“Hey,” Samuel says. I smile at him. He looks so cute in a white tux with a red tie.

“You look beautiful,” he says to me.

“Thank you.”

“How about you fuck around somewhere else?” Danny says to him.

“Danny,” I scold.

“You been talking to Bexley behind my back? Why don’t you get your own girl, motherfucker?”
