And now I’ll have to kill him.
There’s no other way.
I have to get us out of here. Bexley’s right. I’m burning up and my wrists are battered. I need to stop moving them. Maybe if I stop irritating them, the swelling will go down. Bexley convinced Trig to give me some ibuprofen and that might have been his biggest mistake. He tossed her half a bottle. I’ll make sure to take a few every four hours.
This has to help.
It’s all we have.
Chapter Six
Danny
2006
I don’t have a plan for what I’m going to say to Bex when we pull up. I just know I want to beg her to forgive me. I fucked up. I should have called. I should have… What should I have done? I was on a run. I was with my guys and shit went wrong. How could I have known this was going to happen? I had my tux. I told her this morning I would be there to get her, because that was my intention.
I’m out of my mind with worry at this point. My thoughts are scattered, my chest burning with the fear she’s going to tell me to leave her alone and never come back.
I look down at my clothes. Fuck, I’m a mess. Johnny’s right. What the hell are they going to say about the way I look? I have blood on me.
I think for a moment.
“Pull over,” I say.
“What?” Johnny looks over at me.
“Just stop the fucking car.” I hop out. “Pop the trunk.” I hurry to the back and grab the spare tire and walk up to the backseat window. “Carson,” I say, hitting the glass. “Change out that right tire.”
I leave the spare leaning against the car, walking back to the trunk.
“What the hell for?” he says, getting out.
“Just do it!” I say. “Hurry up.” He rolls his eyes and I grab the crowbar as he gets the jack.
Johnny gets out. “Have you lost your goddamn mind?”
“Move back, Carson.” I rare back and hit the windshield on the passenger side.
“Man, what the hell?” Carson says.
I hit the front headlight, too, and then I grab my knife from my side and hold out my palm. With an inhale I slit my hand open and hold it over the hood and windshield, letting blood drip.
I put my knife back.
“Oh,” Johnny says. “We hit a deer.”
“Big motherfucker,” I say with a slight smirk.
Carson bends down, working on the tire. “You two are fucking crazier than me. All this for a chick.”
After the tire is put on, we continue to Bexley’s uncle’s house. I wrap my hand with a towel as we near her house. I hold my breath, and then I see a car in the driveway, and I see her and…Samuel?
“What the hell?” I say.
“Danny, man,” Johnny says.
I pull on the handle when Johnny stops the car and I jump out.
