“Then don’t put them back on, Ahvi…” Lunar sighed. “You know you can do whatever you want to do.” Slowly, he dragged his eyes back to her. “For example, you don’t have to wait for me to tell you to get some of this dick. You can come take what’s yours anytime you want.”

She nodded.

“And if you want to get out the house, get out the house. Or if you want me to take you somewhere, open your mouth and tell me you want to go somewhere. If you want money, you ask for money, Ahvi… this shit so simple that I don’t understand why the fuck you walking around like it ain’t.”

“Simple for you – all this,” she opened her arms dramatically taking in the house, the pool it was a far cry from her little house. “You’re used to it. This ain’t SIMPLE! Ain’t shit simple about this to people like me. No one just gives me shit…so it takes some getting used to when you’re used to doing it all by yourself.”

He pushed up from the side of the pool with a determined look in his eyes. He didn’t say a word, didn’t acknowledge how pretty she was…standing there in her panties. She did notice him licking his lips, but Lunar was on a mission…to where, she didn’t know.

Ahvi just stood there with her hands by her side, her thumb tapping against her thigh while she had a full-blown conversation in her head about how stupid she must have looked.

Before she could talk herself into getting the hell on, Lunar reappeared with a gummy treat in his hand. “Here…”

“What is it?” Ahvi asked, her eyes locked on his.

“an edible.”

“Where you get this from?”

Lunar’s scent brushed past her nose as he reclaimed his spot by the pool. “Noodle likes to get high but can’t hit blunts without Bu, so she has a small stash of edibles everywhere she goes,” he explained.

Ahvi popped the small gummy in her mouth, chewing it slowly. It was good, with only a faint hint of THC aftertaste. “So all of y’all like to boss your girls around?”

“You my girl?” Lunar twisted his head to ask as she sat next to him, her breasts bouncing with each little movement.

“No, but you know what I mean,” she laughed.

“Nah, I don’t know what you mean,” Lunar kicked her foot under the water. “So tell me… explain to me how you ain’t my girl.”

“First off, how you know I want a man? I gotta get my shit together and honestly, you been distracting me.” Ahvi swiped the tips of her finger over his brows before dipping one into that dimple that seemed to never disappear.

Lunar scoffed. “Me?” He pointed at his chest like he couldn’t believe she was putting that on him. “I’m distracting you? My Ahvi, you so out of touch with what this shit is…it’s almost sad.”

What the fuck?!” Her voice rose and her head cocked, daring him to say it again. “Watch how you talking to me.”

“Then watch how you handling me!” Lunar fired back, his brows flickering a little.

Ahvi looked him upside his head, looking for what she’d missed when she first came out. Well, not missed because she noticed something in his eyes when he did finally look at her, but she chose to ignore it ‘cause she was busy with thoughts of taking deep dick.

Her hand rested on top of his. “What’s wrong, Lunar?” The fierceness was gone from her voice.

His shoulders sagged, and he lowered his voice. “I’m just—” he licked his lips, “I’m just in my feelings…wondering what made me one of God’s strongest soldiers or what I did wrong in my past life to not deserve my dad. How did they all have him, if even for a short amount of time, except me?” his voice cracked. “I’d give anything just for him to drop a lesson…a memory in my lap, that’ll stick with me forever.”

“Anything?” Ahvi asked, pushing herself closer to him, to wipe his face.

With the sexiest, deepest eyes she’d ever seen, Lunar looked up at her. “Any- fuckin’ thing.”

Sucking in a deep breath, she pulled his face into her chest as her own tears rolled down her cheeks.

“I wanted to give my life just to see my daddy too, man but then you know what that nigga did?”

He couldn’t see her, but felt her when she shook her head.

“Nigga gave me Kamari.”

She cried harder. Squeezed him more.

“And now I can’t leave my lil’ man out here alone with you or on his own…or this world won’t do him right…see a little black boy and call him bad when he ain’t doing nothing but exploring his new world. Lunar think he slick,” he scoffed, still crying in her chest. “I wonder how many times they called Lunar bad? Wonder how much of those words manifested? But what they expect - when his mama left dropped some kids in his lap making him be the man of the house before his balls even dropped.
