Page 105 of Deadlier Obsessions

The doctor nods at Lucy. “Okay, with the next contraction, I need you to push as hard as you can. We have to get your baby out, or we’ll need to do a C-Section.”

Only seconds later, the nurse says, “You’re having a contraction. Push.”

I glance between her legs and see the most amazing sight I’ve ever seen. It’s a beautiful head full of dark hair.

Another three pushes, and our first baby is born. The doctor holds the baby up. “Congratulations, it's a girl.”

Lucy stares at our daughter in disbelief as she sobs softly. The nurse puts the baby on her belly while she suctions her noseand mouth, and she screams. Immediately Lucy puts her to the breast, to give her a chance to get acquainted. It was explained to us that her milk wouldn’t come in for a few days, but everything the baby needs would be in the colostrum; the liquid that comes from the breasts before the actual milk comes in. Nurse Rodgers went on to explain that what she needs more than anything right now is skin to skin contact.

After the nurse does the testing she needs to do, to ensure our little girl is healthy, she wraps her in a pink blanket and hands her to Lucy, but she tells her to let me hold her.

Her little face is so sweet as she sleeps in my arms. I speak softly to her, so I don’t scare her, “I’m your other mommy. We are going to love you so much you’ll get sick of us. Your little brother or sister will be here soon. In just a minute, I’ll go get your daddies. I guarantee you, they will be a little obsessed with you. It’s kind of their thing, yes it gets annoying, but they love so fiercely you will never doubt if they care about you.”

Lucy starts giggling. “A little?”

I walk over and put our sweet angel back in Lucy’s arms. “I’m going to go put the guys out of their misery.”

Leaning down, I kiss her softly on the lips. “You were right. It doesn’t feel like I’m an outsider. I know there’s no DNA of mine in her, but it feels like she’s ours.”

Her gaze goes from the baby to my eyes. “Of course she’s ours, Stella. We all know only one of them could biologically be her father, but she’s all of ours. We did this together.”

I nod slightly. “I love you. You did good. I’ll be right back.”

I walk into the waiting room to find three men that look like they’re awaiting the executioner. Their faces are etched with worry. Sebastian and Gage sit beside each other with theirelbows on their knees, and faces in their hands. Mav is pacing in the hallway when he turns to spot me, and quickly makes his way to me.

“Please tell me she’s okay. I can’t. Please just t-”

I smile softly. “She’s fine. And so is your daughter.”

Mav and Sebastian look relieved, but Gage looks angry.

“I’m going to see my daughter. I’d like to see these fuckers stop me. I’ll kill every one of them if I have to.”

I shake my head at his ridiculous behavior, although it's really not abnormal for him. “Put the Gage Rage away, husband. I’m taking you to see them right now.”

Instantly he relaxes his shoulders, and I walk down the hall with them in tow, and I hear their low voices.

“A girl,” Gage says, “Imagine how many losers we’re going to have to kill.”

Mav and Sebastian chuckle, and Mav adds, “If she looks anything like Lucy, there’s going to be at least a hundred.”

We stand outside her room when I turn to them. “Now you listen to me. That’s enough of that for now. Every single one of you will behave. Especially you, Gage.”

He grins at me. “I love it when you scold me, little mama. Wanna find a closet after we see our daughter?”

I roll my eyes. “One track mind.”

All three of our men walk in, and stand staring at the baby like they’ve never seen a real one before.

“Guys, you can come closer. Come see your little girl.”

Without a word, all three of them come and kiss Lucy on the cheek before sitting down, and I glance at them with confusion, because they wanted children so badly, but they aren’t even asking to hold her.

“You don’t want to hold her?”

They all shake their heads, which only adds to the perplexing situation.

“Why not?”
