Mick: I’d be happy to teach you. Wish I was there too.

I decide to leave off the eggplant emoji and put my phone down before I risk saying anything inappropriate. Thankful for the unexpected end to my day, I turn off the lights and head to sleep with a goofy grin on my face.

CHAPTERTEN

Ava

It feels like forever since Mick’s been to the office. I couldn’t stop thinking about him at the Flying Squirrels game last night.

The evening had been such fun. Our seats were great, close to the field, between home plate and first base. We had an amazing view of the players as they traversed back and forth from the dugout and prime placement for catching various objects shot out to the fans from the team mascot. A hot dog practically bounced off of my head into the lap of a fan above me at one point.

Joanie and Allison really let loose when they’re out for a good time. I think I laughed more at their shenanigans than I have in a very long time. Who’d have thought these two mild-mannered married women from the office, one with a grandchild on the way, could be so raucous? They had no trouble voicing their delight as the players would exit the dugout one by one to take their turn at-bat. Apparently, while Allison’s big into muscular athletes, Joanie’s an ass man. They rated each player as if they were unknowingly starring in aMr. Baseballcover model contest. I’ve never laughed so hard.

Yet all the while, it was Mick I was imagining on the field. I kept trying to picture him, decked out in a baseball uniform. Other than in scrubs a long time ago, I’ve never seen him in anything but a suit. Oh, what I’d give to see him in tight baseball pants, his muscular arms on display. And I bet he looks hot in a baseball cap. Suddenly, I feel my skin warm.Gah. Is it hot in here?

I’ve finished cleaning up after dinner and brought a new book to bed. I admit I can’t help but picture a dark-haired, strong-jawed, muscular ex-ballplayer as the hero of this story. Given the steam is starting to pick up in this billionaire office romance, I can’t help but let my mind wander to what it’d be like to fall into bed with Mick.

I’m no virgin, but I haven’t had the most adventurous sex life. I don’t do the one-night stand thing, so it’s been a while. When I dated my last boyfriend, the sex was okay. Much like the men before him, it was simply a release with someone other than my battery-operated boyfriend. While my B.O.B can always get me there, I’d like a little more dirty talk. But I’ve never been with anyone like Mick before. I can imagine a night with him would top anything I’ve ever experienced.

Bzzz. Bzzz.

Grabbing my phone from the nightstand, I’m shocked when I take in the greeting.

Michael York

9:20 p.m.

Mick: Hi.

I read the message again. Ensuring I’m not imagining this. It’s as if he knows I’ve been thinking about him. I guess it shouldn’t be surprising he’s texting while he’s on my mind. Lately, he’s always on my mind.

9:22 p.m.

Ava: Hi.

Michael York

9:25 p.m.

Mick: I hope it isn’t too late. I couldn’t stop thinking about you.

9:29 p.m.

Ava: No, not too late. I was just thinking about you too.

Michael York

9:32 p.m.

Mick: Oh yeah. What were you thinking about?

9:38 p.m.

Ava: Um, I’m embarrassed to tell you.
