9:15 p.m.

Kat:Thank you! You’ve just made Nick’s night. Call if you need anything!

Heading for the bedroom, I try to keep my cool. I can hear the shower running as Nick prepares to head out for Rachel’s to pick up the kids. I chew on the inside of my cheek as I start to undress. He has his beautiful back to me, soap suds trailing a delicious route down his strong torso to his mouthwatering backside.

Reaching for the door, I step inside and wrap my arms around him.

“Mrs. Barnes, not that I’m complaining, but we aren’t going to make it to your sister’s by ten if you join me in here.”

I giggle. “Ah, they can wait.”

Nick spins to face me, one brow cocked. “Are you sure? It’s going to be so late putting them to bed.”

“Tomorrow’s Sunday. They can sleep in.”

His hands glide up and down my sides, a look of hopeful anticipation lurking beneath his facial features.

Giving his now fully erect cock a stroke, I drop to my knees. Gripping his veiny shaft in my fist, I look up at him. “Rachel said to pick them up in the morning,” I say before sliding my mouth down over him.

“Holy fuck. Am I dreaming?”

The night turns into day, and we gather the kids and head for home. I’m eager to wipe down every surface of the house with bleach and start next week in a much better direction.

We enjoy a leisurely day together, enjoying sandwiches on a big blanket out back overlooking the lake. Against the kids’ protests, all six of us take an afternoon nap. Nick surprisingly keeps his hands to himself, except for occasional squeezes as he spoons me from behind. Night comes quickly, and we let the boys enjoy time with their electronics while Grace, Olivia, and I paint at the kitchen table before washing up for bed.

Bzzz. Bzzz.

I notice Nick reach for his phone and smile.

“Gavin. How are you, man?”

“Gavin!” the kids all shout in unison.

“Okay, okay. I’ll let each of you have a turn once I’m done. I’m going to take this in the study, but I promise to come back soon and let you all say hi.” Nick turns and waltzes to the study, and I have to giggle. Gavin is like a rockstar in this house. He may have been the adopted little brother Nick took on from the Big Brothers, Big Sisters organization all those years ago. But he’s as much a family member as Rachel or Grandpa Garrett.

“I hope he’s calling to say he has a girlfriend.” Grace giggles as she covers her mouth with her hand.

“What? Why do you hope that?” I can’t help but laugh.

“He needs a girlfriend. He’s all alone.”

“Oh, he has more people in his life than he knows what to do with,” I joke. And it’s true. That young man is like a honey trap. But it’s not just women he can lure. He simply has an easy-going way about him that makes everyone smile when they’re near him. I know he’s had some struggles. Dealing with the questions any young man would have who grew up without a father in his life. But he’s a genuinely good egg, and I’m proud to think Nick could have had a hand in that.

“Okay, guys. Line up. Shortest to tallest. You each get a few minutes, okay?” Nick looks at me and winks, knowing they could keep Gavin on the phone all night talking about nothing. He’s such a good sport. Nick places the call on speaker phone and holds it out so each of the kids can speak to him.

“Gabin, it’s Olibia. I miss you. When are you coming over? I want to show you my bun-”

“Slow down, Livy. He’s not going anywhere.” Nick chuckles. “Let Gavin answer.” He glances back in my direction and shakes his head.

“Hi, Liv Liv. I told your dad I might come to visit next weekend and bring Grandpa for the day. Does that sound okay?”

“Yay! She squeals into the phone.” Holy crap. He’s probably deaf in one ear now.

The boys are jumping up and down behind her, waiting patiently for their turn. I need to find a way to capitalize on this in the future. Nothing gets them behaving like Gavin.

As the phone passes down the line, Grace cannot help herself and takes her place behind Logan. I rest my chin in my hands and grin at my crazy kids. This was the perfect send-off to bath and bed. They’ll be looking forward to this all week.
