“Can you tell me more about that night?” she practically whispers.

“Anything. What do you want to know?”

“The text you sent me. Is that how it all started?”

I chuckle, knowing it was actually her niece and nephew that started the whole thing. That’s pretty fucking romantic.“I’d met a few soccer buddies for drinks after I’d had dinner with my dad. I didn’t drink a lot, but enough that when I got home, all I could think about was you. I remember I couldn’t help myself. So, I sent a text, and apparently, your niece and nephew intercepted it. It was actually my dad who helped me to figure out they were sending texts from theBoss Babymovie.

“Your dad?”

“Haha. Yeah. I told him a while later that I’d had a weird conversation with you and showed him the texts.”

“Oh, my god. You didn’t.”

“Yep. He got quite a chuckle over my lack of game.”

Kat covers her face in a fit of laughter. I’m sure trying to picture the ridiculous scenario.

“Anyway, when you text later that you were going dancing, I’d hoped it was an invitation. I was afraid to jinx it by pushing for details and guessed you were going to The Zone since that’s where I’d seen you dance before.” I give her a loving squeeze at the memory of seeing my Dirty Librarian on the dance floor the first time. Hell, I was so hooked. “You played coy once I saw you. Kat, I had no idea you were under the influence of any medication. You have to know I would have nev-”

“Nick. Of course, you wouldn’t. I know that.”

“At first, I just followed you out of the club to see where you were going. Then when I saw you standing there, I knew I had to kiss you,” I say, running my finger over her plush lower lip. “That kiss.”

I hesitate, worried I’m treading back into territory that will upset her. It was our first kiss, and she has no memory of it. But her eyes are bright, and she seems to be handling the details well. She lifts her hand to my scalp and scratches her nails through my hair.

“Tonight, it felt like the first time.”

“What do you mean?”

“The kiss. I felt like I knew what our first one felt like after all of this time. It was electric.”

A huge smile takes over my face, and I can’t help cupping her cheeks and placing a chaste kiss on her sweet mouth.

“Nick. So, was everything tonight pretty close to how it really happened?”

“Pretty much. Well, except…”

“Except, what?”

“I don’t think you came that night. I’ve learned your body’s responses to me, and I think I was the only one that got there that night.”

“Well, I’m not surprised.”

“Hey!” In case we’re getting into uncomfortable territory again, I try to act offended to lighten the atmosphere.

“No. I told you that I’d never had one with someone before the night of the Halloween party.”

“Not ’til me,” I boast, kissing her nose.

Kat buries her face in my neck, snuggling close. I’m sure her mind is going a mile a minute, trying to absorb everything that happened tonight, as well as any extra details she’s learning now. I’m shocked she’s not completely overwhelmed by all of it.

Her hand trails up and down my chest and over my shirt before a giggle escapes. “I wish you’d wear this outfit more often. It’s hot.” She giggles. “You’re hot.”

“Oh, yeah. I’ll have to remember that.”

“I think I’d be okay with replaying this night on my birthday, too.” She laughs a little harder, seemingly embarrassed.

“Ha! Done!”
