“You staying for dinner, Ad?”
“No. It’s been a long day. I’m getting too old for the long hours of partying.” I laugh.
“It’s only six,” Trevor says with a huff.
“Well, I got to the bakery at four thirty in the morning because Alden needed to come in late today.” I try to stay chipper despite his condescending tone. Turning to him, I walk closer. “Why, you want me to stay?” I purr, blinking rapidly like a character from an animated cartoon.
Shaking his head, he doesn’t answer, just keeps watching the ballgame on the television in the main room.
“Just ignore him, Addy,” Matthew says, patting my back.
“Hey, not to toot my own horn, but my birthday is Friday. Cece’s going to get in touch with Sam to see if he’ll make some barbeque and brisket to bring to Pour Decisions. I’m making some dirty cupcakes. I hope you guys can make it.”
“Hell yeah. Of course we’ll be there,” Jason shouts over the sizzling sound of grilled food. Man, I wish I could grab some of this to go. But I don’t want to keep hanging out here where I’m not wanted. Well, by Trevor anyway. I’ll wear him down on more neutral turf.
I give everyone a quick goodbye as I head for the door. Yet, just as I reach for the doorknob, a voice says, “What the hell are dirty cupcakes?”
Walking over to where Trevor’s sitting, I bend down near his ear. “They’re sinfully sweet. Like me. I hope you come.” I enunciate each word carefully, hoping he catches the double entendre.
His eyes flick to mine, and I swear I can feel a crackle of electricity between us. I give him a playful wink, so there’s no doubt how I meant the statement, straighten, and head for home.
CHAPTER13
Trevor
“Yes,”I groan as I erupt into my hand. As my breathing begins to return to normal, I open my eyes, staring up at the ceiling. Once again, I’ve started my morning imagining the sight of Addison squirming naked beneath me. Shaking my head, I look down and wince. What the hell is wrong with me? Again?
I’ve lost track of how many times I’ve woken up with a hard-on that I should’ve ignored. Instead, I chose not to waste it, thinking about Addison’s mouth wrapped around my dick. Shit, I’m not going to be able to use it once I finally find a willing partner. I’ll be chafed.
Maybe I should bail on this party. It’s getting more and more difficult to pretend I don’t want her. And it’s like she’s made it her mission tooutme. As if she knows exactly how thoughts of her have been torturing me, and she’s calling me on it. Sassy little minx.
Do I have to get this girl a gift? I know what I’d like to give her. Okay, Trev. Get your ass up and in the shower, and don’t think about her while you’re in there. Maybe I should go home for the weekend and visit Mom.
Thirty minutes later, I’ve taken a cold shower, dressed, and made a pot of coffee. I need to get this day on track. Who am I kidding? I know full well I’m going to that party. Just remember, she’s off-limits, Trevor. You’re dating down. Only girls a seven or below… and she’s clearly a twenty.
Buzz. Buzz.
Gazing down at my cell, I notice Zach’s name and light up. I’ve missed this guy.
“Hey, what a surprise.”
“How’s it going in mountain country?” Zach was a good friend the short time I knew him before moving. He’s a Hanover fire department veteran, and I was proud to be on his crew.
Zach was kind of a loner, just him and his dog. He suffered a nasty divorce and didn’t divulge a lot of personal details. But he was a stand-up guy, and I knew I could count on him to have my back. “I was thinking of coming up one weekend. If it’s still open, I’d love to take you up on your offer to hit the lake.”
“Of course. You and Otis are welcome anytime. I’m off this weekend. Just have plans Friday night, but the next two weekends are open.”
“Got it. I’ll look at my calendar. I think the weekend after next will work. Are you good with the dog coming? He’s too old to get into any trouble.”
“I figured you and Otis were a package deal. It’s fine. Just let me know when. I hear the fishing is great here.”
“Perfect. Just reserve some nice weather. I hate fishing in the rain.”
I chuckle but consider he’s probably done it before. Hanging up the call, I take a sip of my coffee and realize I’ve inadvertently been scrolling for gifts for women on the internet while I was talking to Zach. I can’t remember the last time I bought anything for a girl.Oh yeah, a ring. That’s what I bought.

“Hey, man. Glad you could make it,” Jason greets me from the bar as I walk into Pour Decisions.
