She gives me a curious look. “You like dogs, but you don’t have any? What’s the fascination then?”
“They’re loyal,” I bite back. I need to keep far away from this one. Between her looks, her overly flirtatious ways, and her self-proclaimed interest in big dick energy, Addison spells nothing but trouble.
“Oh.” She turns to Jason and gives him a peck on the cheek. “Are any of your less grumpy friends coming to the party?”
What the fuck?
“He’s not so bad, Addy. Give the guy a chance. It’s his first time at a Shotgun Sam party. He’s just getting acclimated. I’m grabbing a beer. You want anything, doll?”
“No. I have a hard apple cider over there.” She points toward a small wooden crate being used as a table between two folding chairs. I recognize the couple from The Cellar Bar seated there.
“Okay. I’m going to introduce Trev to some folks and grab a cold one. I’ll catch up with you later, sweet girl.”
Unable to stop watching this magnificent creature, I follow her form as she slinks over to several muscular men to our right. Sliding her arms around two of them, they turn simultaneously, beaming as they take her in. One man is wearing a shirt that says, ‘I like Bourbon & Barb.’ The other I cannot decipher from this angle. Suddenly, a petite blonde walks up to the bourbon lover and places a kiss on his cheek. Her shirt reads, ‘I like bellinis and bubble baths.’ I’d assume this is Barb, but this appears to be quite an affectionate group of party-goers.
“Come on, man. Let me introduce you to some folks.” Jason redirects my attention, walking ahead of me to the makeshift bar in the distance. Unable to stop myself, I look back in Addison’s direction. Catching my gaze, she waves wearing a broad smile, ensuring I know she’s aware of my ogling.
Don’t even think about it, Trevor. This girl is nothing but trouble.
CHAPTER6
Addison
“So,who’s that you keep staring at?” Cece asks.
“His name’s Trevor. Came to the party with Jason. He’s a new member at station twelve.”
“He’s cute.”
“Yeah. He’s got the most beautiful blue eyes. I’m sure if he smiled, they’d be dreamy. But he appears to be a grump.”
“Why do you say that?”
“Just not very warm and fuzzy.”
“What, Addy found the one man on the planet that didn’t light up like a Christmas tree when she gave him the time of day?” Alden teases.
“Must be gay.” Cece giggles. “She can make a dead man smile.”
“Y’all are sweet. Ridiculous but sweet. Although if my current situation with men keeps up, maybe I should start hanging out at Milton’s.”
“Oh, good Lord, Addy. You’re your own worst enemy. Before you start spending your lunch break at the funeral home, why don’t you give one of those poor guys a chance?” Alden asks.
“I told you. There’s no spark. It’d be like dating my big brother.” Turning to look back at Jason and Trevor, I connect with deep blue eyes staring in my direction. The smile I feel take over my face is instant. Waving at him, I’m greeted with a scowl before he turns away from me.Good grief. Maybe he is gay.
What gives? They may not be double D’s, but they’re still perky. I’d worry it was my shirt, but his wasn’t any better. I admit I have a big personality.Maybe he’s simply concerned his dick won’t measure up.
I haven’t felt this electric about someone in… well, I’m not sure I’ve ever felt this magnetic pull. Is it simply that he’s new? He’s undeniably handsome. Several inches taller than me, with a lean but muscular build, he has dark brown hair and a sinfully square jaw. But those eyes. Mine are blue, but Trevor’s are a hypnotic azure blue. Like staring into the abyss of the deep blue sea. Finally, a man in this town has me excited about the possibility of more. It figures he’d be repulsed by my very existence.
Once he opened his grumpy-assed mouth, it should’ve been enough to turn me away. Who comes to a party like that? But something is intriguing about him. Why’s he so crabby? Loyalty’s obviously a big deal to him. Had someone done him wrong?
“Addy, you there?”
“What?”
“I asked if you wanted me to grab you something from the grill?” Cece asks, laughing. “Where’d you go?”
“Nowhere. Just letting my mind run away from me.”
