I blinked.

It was a real question.

Thinking, I looked at him, then at Zarat… then back at him. I nodded.

“Yes,” I said. “Are you?”

“Yes,” he said.

Zero hesitation lived in his voice.

Maybe it was that, or maybe it was just that we’d finally made a decision, but something in my chest relaxed. I looked at Zarat, who was watching the two of us, a thoughtful look on her face. She was smiling too, but it seemed less at me or Black’s expense than most of the smiles I’d seen around that fire.

“We’ll do it,” I said, unnecessarily. “What do you need from us?”

Smiling a touch wider, she inclined her head in a formal-looking bow.

“Nothing at all, Wisest of the Gods. You may simply relax and let us work… you and your husband both.”

I blinked at the seer shaman’s words.

Wisest of the Gods?

I wasn’t sure how to take that.

In the end, I more or less decided to ignore it.
