Chapter 14
Chiara
Skye Palace
Planet Anarr
The Hai System
Before Roman had left to do whatever work it was he did during the day, Chiara had made sure to redo his tests. Even in a sex haze she’d managed to remember that.
Never had she wanted—no, needed someone in the same way that she needed Roman.
And he’d certainly kept his promise.
Roman had shown her the many benefits of a Drakesthai male. The convenient little nub at the base of his cock was one of her favorites though. It got the job done in a way that made her toes curl just thinking about it.
Who would have thought that she, of all people, would be distracted from her work because of a male who happened to excel at sex?
Part of it was she could feel him. He was close – in the palace – for the moment at least. Everything she’d felt before had been amplified by a thousand. His emotions were ever-changing but mostly happy.
It was something she was going to have to learn to tune out but at the moment she was simply fascinated by how he worked. Chiara had never had this kind of opportunity before. Hopefully it would help her understand neuro-typicals better across the board.
But Chiara liked knowing what he was feeling. It was comforting to know she was never really alone, not anymore.
Roman’s before and after tests were displayed, the holos hovering in the air before her while she entered her own blood into the machine. Chiara waved the scanner over her body and then waited, tapping her fingers on the desk.
So far there was no reaction to the change in his genetic makeup. That was a good thing. If he was going to react badly it would have happened already. Other side effects could come up, but Chiara doubted it. She’d done her research thoroughly.
She was pleased to see his sperm was showing actual numbers. They were still very low, but that would improve over time. It would take a while for his body to produce higher numbers, but the more sex he had the better. And any major changes would show up in three months.
Could she speed up the process?
Chiara decided against it. That would probably cause unnecessary complications and she had no plans to reproduce any time soon. They could all wait at least three months. The Drakesthai certainly wouldn’t die out before then.
Then she remembered what Roman had said about the meeting with the queen the day before. Word hadn’t been sent yet. Time was different between Hai Delta and Anarr.
Chiara knew it would happen soon though.
War was coming and she didn’t feel prepared. Not really.
But could one ever really be prepared for war?
Either way, three months wasn’t going to matter. They would all survive the war, or they wouldn’t. If the Neprijat won, curing the Drakesthai would be pointless…if she was even alive to do it.
Chiara decided that sort of thinking wasn’t going to help so she shoved it to the back of her mind.
Roman was cured and he didn’t have any issues with her replacement gene.
The machine beeped and she pulled up her tests from before and after the consummation of the bond.
What a fascinating thing.
Her biology was ever so slightly different now thanks to his pheromones. But it didn’t look like it had activated her fertility. That was a relief. And it was information she should probably send the queen as well as Ian, given her situation.
Not that Ian had the time to cure Kaiden. Things were different on Hai Delta with the queen. Everything had been rushed and intense as they all prepared for battle. Chiara was grateful she wasn’t among all the hustle and bustle anymore, even if she had pushed against leaving the Hai capitol at first.
Chiara needed time to mentally prepare herself for change. Having it sprung on her wasn’t pleasant – but she hadn’t wanted to lose this opportunity. The Three-Faced Goddess must have been involved since she’d come only to find her mate.
