Jonas was already pushing me onto this jet.
And I would be a fool to demand he take me elsewhere.
A human pilot was already on board, his fear creating an acrid stench that upset my wolf. I nearly growled, but Jonas’s presence at my back instantly calmed my urge.
This is why he’s dangerous,I thought deliriously. He grounds me too easily.
Which made sense. He was an Alpha. That was what they did.
But they were also capable of a lot of destruction.
They took what they wanted however they wanted it.
Like Omegas.
I curled into myself as Jonas escorted me to a seat, my urge to melt and hide overwhelming my ability to process my surroundings. His nearness only heightened the very real signs of my impending heat. It was almost as though him being beside me sped up the process inside me.
An impossibility, one I knew was a ridiculous notion as a practicing physician.
But that didn’t stop my brain from wondering if his knot had some sort of magic voodoo that deepened my impending lust.
Fucking hormones, I thought as he buckled me in, his woodsy scent overwhelming me with the movements.I can handle my own seat belt, I wanted to say. But the words were stuck to the roof of my mouth as another horrendous scream met my ears.
How many of them are dying out there? Gunned down by their fellow humans?
I knew they didn’t have a choice at this point. The Infected outnumbered the Uninfected now. And it was only getting worse.
It was a survive-or-die mentality.
I just hated that the world had allowed itself to degrade to this level of destruction.
Many supernaturals were developing protective regions in response to the epidemic. They weren’t safe areas for humans, though. Only for their own kind.
Everyone had a “look out for myself” approach to the world these days.
Given everything I’d witnessed, I couldn’t blame them. The humans hadn’t exactly earned our help in this matter.
But that didn’t stop me from trying to make a difference.
At least, it hadn’t, anyway.
However, it was starting to seem pointless.
The door to the jet closed, leaving just me and Jonas in the back with the single pilot up front.
“We’re not taking anyone else?” I asked, looking out the window at the military personnel battling in our wake.
“They’ll be on the cargo planes,” Jonas explained, his deep voice unnaturally soft. “They prioritized research personnel first.”
“Where’s Kieran?”
Jonas grunted, his icy blue eyes leaving my face as he looked out the window beside him. “On another plane.”
I sighed. If Kieran were on the jet, he could have distracted Jonas for me. I wasn’t sure I could inject myself with Jonas nearby, let alone reach my suppressants. I should have put them in my purse, not my main bag.
Although, I didn’t even have my purse with me now.
“Where did you put my stuff?” I asked, realizing that Jonas had taken my purse at some point and put everything away before buckling me in. There were only two rows of chairs, making this a four-seater. Therefore, my bag couldn’t be far.
