The stretch eased as Kieran slipped out from between my legs, while the earth tremors began to calm.

“Are you okay?” Kieran pushed himself up, tucking hair behind my ear as he looked me over.

The dust settled and the waves of the water slowed to smooth ripples.

Nodding, I looked around.

We were still alive.

My neck burned and there was a delicious ache between my thighs where his seed leaked out from me, but we weren’t crushed to death.

And I really needed to pee.

“I should be asking if you’re okay.” I slid out from under him, trying to check his back for cuts and bruises. “Are those… scales?”

Red and black slices of thickened skin covered his shoulders to his ass, vanishing into shadow-like tendrils as I spoke.

“I can channel features of my dragon while in this form,” he said, holding out a hand to help me to my feet.

Without meaning to, my gaze went straight to his semi-hard cock. It was a beautiful thing. And I’d never been one to think dicks were attractive. It was my curse for being a female attracted to men. But his handsome member pulsed under my attention.

“Did you… um… channel those ridges for me?” I still couldn’t quite figure out how all this dragon-body stuff worked. Not that I was complaining.

Kieran smirked as he helped me to my feet, leaning in to whisper, “That’s how it always is, but if you’re a good girl, I’ll show you what else I can do.”

Be still my throbbing… heart.

“Don’t tease me with a good time.” I fanned myself as I smiled. “Give me a second? Nature calls.”

Kieran stood guard while I found a quiet corner to take care of business.

A layer of dust had settled on the clear water of the hot spring pool, and I skimmed it away before splashing myself clean.

“It’s crazy to think how used to earthquakes we’ve gotten,” I said. “I can barely remember what it was like before they got this bad.”

“I can,” Kieran muttered to the darkness.

A roar came from deep within the caverns, making me jump before I hurried to his side, glad I’d already gone so I didn’t wet myself at the sound of it.

“What or who is that?” I grabbed his arm, prepared to hightail it out of the caves. I wanted to explore these runes, but not at the risk of my life.

One close call with death a day was my limit.

“That’s Dahlia, Bemouth’s mate,” Kieran explained as he picked up my shorts. “Let’s get you dressed. Then I’ll go see if everything is all right.”

I nodded, hands trembling as I buttoned up my shorts and got ready. My hair was wet and limp so I left it down to dry, but I’m sure I looked a mess.

Hopefully that meant I’d be unappetizing.

Meeting ancient dragons that lived in caves and roared like we were intruding was not on the agenda for the day, but I was ready.

It was time to face this apocalyptic prophecy and see what all the fuss was about.
