“Night in Nashville?” Quinn asks. “Why are we going to Nashville?”

At that moment, Logan hands me an envelope. “Two tickets for tonight’s hockey game. I hear that it’s the championship series? Or whatever the terminology is for that.”

Quinn and I look at each other in shock because we’ve been following each game of the series every night at the bar. Tonight the Music City Rockers could win the cup.

“Logan. We can’t?—”

“Oh, and be ready at four-thirty,” Maeve says. “That’s when the limo will be picking you up to take you to your dinner at our favorite Nashville steakhouse. And before you object, it’s already paid for, so you can’t say no.”

I’m speechless and stunned. But in the midst of that, for some reason, I happen to notice a car pulling into the parking lot. There’s a sign out front that says we’re closed this afternoon for a private event, but even if it was someone coming to the party, I don’t recognize the car. And I would. It’s a bright orange sedan, a color that would be remembered.

I stare at it for a second, and I can’t see much past the tinted windows. It stops for a second, and I think my eyes are playing tricks on me, but I could swear the person driving could pass for my mother. An older version. But still, the resemblance, even through the glaring sun, is striking.

But just as quickly as they pull in, the car backs up and burns rubber out of the parking lot.

Fucking weird…

“So what do you say, you two?” Stella says, turning me back to our conversation. “Are you ready for a night out?”

Quinn and I look at each other, smiles big on both of our faces.

“What do ya’ say, Hurricane? Want to go out on our first date?”

When parents are given a night out, they should take full advantage. This includes, but is not limited to, modes of transportation that are equipped for extracurricular activities.

“That game was epic!I can’t believe we got to see them raise the cup.”

The adrenaline is still pumping through me as we leave the arena in downtown Nashville and make our way to the limo that Logan set up for us. The air is electric around the city right now, and part of me doesn’t want to leave the celebration. The other part of me wants to celebrate with Porter in the back of a limo.

Because…limo sex. Duh.

“That shot at the end? The game winner? It came out of nowhere.”

“So fucking good,” I say, falling into Porter’s outstretched arm as we start to battle postgame Nashville traffic. “That game? Dinner? Tonight has just been?—”

“Perfect,” Porter says as he kisses the top of my head. “Absolutely perfect.”

The limo starts to slowly move as I lay against Porter. The nightwasperfect. The restaurant that Logan and Maeve picked for us was by far the best place I’ve ever eaten in my life. I’m pretty sure Porter moaned when he cut into his steak. And I couldn’t blame him. The noise that came out of my mouth when I bit into my filet mignon was something that Porter’s only heard in the privacy of his bedroom.

And then there was the game, which was fucking insane. One of those games that you brag to your friends about that you got to witness in person. And watching it in club seats with unlimited food and beverage? I know the next time I go and sit in regular seats I’ll feel like a peasant. I really need to thank my sister for marrying a billionaire.

And even though the hometown Music City Rockers won the game, and the championship tonight, the biggest win is that Porter and I only called the bar and Ainsley twice each. We tried to call one more time to each, but the line to the bar was conveniently busy and Ainsley sent us to voicemail.

“Remind me to thank your family again for tonight,” Porter says as his head falls to rest on top of mine. “This was…I can’t imagine a better first date.”

“We did things so ass backwards.” My comment makes him laugh, but it’s true. Because in nowhere in any book of how to date do you sleep with a man for eight years and then decide to become a couple. And then go out on a date.

“I think it all happened like it was supposed to. Neither of us were ready for anything serious. We had our reasons, and they were valid. I think the world worked in a mysterious way that put us together exactly when it was supposed to.”

I sit up from his hold, because while this night is perfect and I don’t want to ruin it, there’s one thing that’s been on my mind for weeks now.

“Can I ask you something?”
