When we getto the clubhouse, I find Sasha in Maggie’s room. I had no doubt that I would find her there. Bon made brownies while we were gone, and her and Maggie are enjoying them while watching a movie.

“Hey, babe,” I whisper before planting a kiss on her head.

I inhale her scent, and it practically melts all of my irritation away. Her and Maggie both look up at me from their seats.

“Hey,” Sasha exhales, as though she’s been holding her breath for me to come home.

The look in her eyes when they meet mine is one I will never get tired of. I’ve never experienced anything like it before I met her. She missed me. I don’t even have to ask her to know how she feels, and it’s something I never knew I wanted until now. To be able to look at someone and read their every emotion. Their every want. Their every need.

“What have you ladies been up to?”

“Not too much. Kid moved the TV over here. Mostly we’ve been channel surfing.”

“Good,” I wink. “Glad you’ve been relaxing.”

“Um, how did it go this morning?” Sasha asks softly.

The way she asks, it’s almost as though she’s trying not to let Maggie hear. I don’t know if Maggie is as up-to-date with everything that’s been going on as Sasha is.

“Dead-end, but we have SoCo and one of the Bastards up there staking it out. We’ll rotate watch until we find something or realize it’s truly a dead-end.”

“What’s happening?” Maggie jumps in.

Both Sasha and I look at her, unsure what to say.

“Well,” Sasha begins. “Blade took me home the other day, and there was a… A note. From Jasper.”

Maggie flinches when Sasha speaks his name.

“What kind of note?” Maggie asks as Hawk walks into the room.

He’s been spending as much time in here as Sasha has. Something is up with them, and I want to know what it is.

“A… A threat, really,” Sasha grabs my attention again. “He said he’s coming for me. That he’s going to kill everyone around me so I won’t have any protection. Then he’s going to make me his new queen.”

“Oh my god. Why didn’t you tell me?” Maggie asks.

“I—I didn’t want to bring any of it up. I didn’t want to cause you any more pain than you’ve already endured.”

“Fuck.”

A ringing from Hawk’s pocket has the three of us turning our attention toward him. Fishing his phone out, he takes one look at the screen before his eyes dart to Maggie.

“Is it my father again?” she asks.

A quick nod tells us it is.

“Let me talk to him,” Maggie holds her hand out, waiting for Hawk to give her the phone.

Placing it into her palm, Maggie quickly answers the call but doesn’t say anything. I don’t like the pained expression in her eyes, and judging by the dark shadow that crosses Hawk’s face, he doesn’t either.

“Hello?” I hear Royce’s voice through the speaker.

“Father.” Maggie finally speaks.

“Mags,” his voice softens, but only slightly. “It’s good to hear your voice. I wasn’t sure thatdoctorwas ever going to let you speak to me again.”

“I didn’t want to talk to you. Unlike you, Hawk doesn’t make me do things that I don’t want to do.”
