“What did you do to her?” I command furiously, shaking with anger.

He breaks his eye contact and walks farther into the clubhouse.

“Answer me!”

Hawk stops on a dime and turns his head, piercing me with a ferocious gaze.

“She was having a night terror,” he begins, stalking toward me. “I was trying to calm her down when she started screaming. I gave her a mild sedative to help pull her out of it and get her back to sleep.”

“I thought you didn’t want to give us any hard drugs?” I challenge.

“This was different. If I wouldn’t have given it to her, she could have fallen out of bed and injured herself even further. I won’t let that happen on my watch.”

He stops right in front of me, crossing his hands over his chest. I feel like an idiot as he looks down at me, his anger still very much apparent. I’ve never seen him angry. He’s always been the cool, level headed one.

“Oh.” It’s all I can come up with as my eyes wander around the clubhouse, looking everywhere but at him.

He pivots and continues walking through the house.

“Can I see her?” I request.

He stops but doesn’t turn around.

“Please? I know what she’s going through. I… We may be able to help one another.”

I watch as Hawk lowers his gaze to the floor. My body trembles, terrified that he’s going to say no. Just as I’m about to speak again, he cuts me off.

“Send Kid out. Come get me if she wakes up.”

Without waiting for a response, Hawk continues his path through the house and out into the garage. With a sigh of relief, I turn and walk back into my room, grabbing the blanket off of my bed. I feel a chill after over-exerting myself. When I enter Maggie’s room, Kid hops out of his chair, ready to refuse me entry.

“You can’t be—” he begins.

“Hawk said it was okay. You can go and ask him yourself. He’s in the garage waiting for you.”

He assesses me as though I’m lying, and he’s waiting to recognize my tell.

“I promise he did. And… I’m sorry for attacking you a minute ago. I thought you guys were hurting her.”

Kid’s accusatory stare turns soft with my apology.

“It’s okay,” he answers with a tight smile. “I know what it feels like to want to protect the ones you care about.”

I move out of his way as he leaves the room, then I close the door behind him. Settling into the chair next to her bed, I curl my legs underneath my body and cover myself with the blanket. It’s still early. I noticed the sun was barely up when I looked out the windows of the clubhouse a minute ago. I lean my head back and close my eyes, thinking about Blade and wishing he’d come home soon.

* * *

Blade’s body covers mine as he thrusts into me. His head buried in my hair, his lips on my neck, fluttering kisses along my delicate skin. I moan as I gently scratch my nails across his muscular arms.

“Mmm… Sasha…” he moans, but there’s something different about his voice. Something about the pitch that isn’t quite right.

He pushes the top half of his body off of mine, and I can finally see his face.

It’s not Blade.

It’s Jasper.

I wake with a start as my eyes fly open, and goose bumps cover my damp skin. The putrid taste of bile rises from the pit of my stomach as saliva pours into my mouth. Spotting a sink across the room, I sprint to it as quickly as my aching body will allow. I empty the contents of my stomach for what feels like the hundredth time since I woke up in bed in that house of horrors.
