I need to get to my girl, and I want to do it now. Too much time has passed as it is.
“When did you last see or talk to her?” I ask the Boy Scout.
“I left her house Wednesday morning.”
I set aside my anger that he stayed the night over her house. I don’t for one second think that anything happened, but that’s beside the point.
“What’s going on?” Drama asks from the table when I walk in with the Boy Scout on my heels.
“Everyone, this is Boy Scout,” I inform them, already pinning a road name on him. “Boy Scout, this is everyone.”
“It’s Steve. You can call me Steve,” Boy Scout clarifies.
“Sasha’s been taken by Death’s Road,” I explain. “I’m here to get my fucking piece, load up on ammo, and then I’m busting down their fucking door and getting her back.”
I look at my brothers as they take in what I just said, and I realize how much that plan sucks. There’s no question I would go there by myself, but I fucking need help. My attention is drawn back to the front door when I see Stone and Cap walk back through it. Thankfully, Turner isn’t with them.
“Church. Now.”
Stone marches toward the chapel as my brothers leave the table one by one, abandoning their dinners to follow him.
“You stay here, Boy Scout,” I order him.
“No. He comes, too,” Stone explains. “He’s in it now. We need all hands on deck. I’ll explain more when we get in there.”
The Boy Scout follows the rest of us to the chapel. As my brothers take their seats, I stand. I can’t sit still right now. It feels like my body is here, but my heart and my brain have already begun to seek her out.
“It’s time I told you all the truth about Montana.”
We listen as Stone tells the same story Iron told me the other day. He explains the secret plan Montana had with Jasper to take out the Skull so Jasper could reign over our territory.
Then Stone recounts his own agreement with Rush. The one where Death’s Road would take out Montana, and in exchange, we would take out Jasper. Rush was successful, but then Jasper killed Rush as well as the former VP of Death’s Road, Yo-Yo before Stone was able to kill Jasper. He wanted more than just to have control of our territory, he also wanted to take over Death’s Road. When he did, he eliminated all threats from those members who refused to follow him. Now filled with members more ruthless than the next, they’re virtually untouchable.
“I’ve been in contact with the presidents from six other Skull charters who are all dealing with shit from Death’s Road. The Gettysburg Bastards are also in.”
The chapel goes dead silent as Stone looks at each one of us pointedly.
“They took Royce’s daughter.”
I look around the room, and all of my brothers’ eyes are as wide as my own. If there is one club you don’t want to make enemies with, it’s the Royal Bastards. Royce, a.k.a The Judge, is the president of the Gettysburg charter. He got his road name because, in that charter, his is the only opinion that matters. He’s a bad ass motherfucker. Not someone even I would want to take on.
“They’re trying to take us all out so they can grow their numbers and their reach.”
“They’re trying to take down the Bastards, too?” Cap questions, his confused look mirroring my own.
“I don’t think so. I think they happened to stumble upon Royce’s daughter out of sheer dumb luck.”
That’s no fucking good.
“The charters… The Bastards… Each and every member has voted to go up against Death’s Road. One phone call from any president to the rest of the group, and we all have four hours to meet at the location previously agreed upon so we can try and take these motherfuckers out once and for all.”
Please tell me this chat is headed where I think it is.
“I’ve been waiting until the time was right to tell you guys, and I believe that time is now. But I won’t make the call unless you’re all in agreement. If anyone has a problem with going to war, now’s the time to speak up.”
I look around the room, waiting to see what my brothers decide. One by one, they stand—the Boy Scout included—ready to fight.
I breathe a short-lived sigh of relief. We’ve agreed to fight, now we need to put it in motion.
