“I have everything I need.”
“That’s a trap. I’m not falling for it.”
I raised my head off his chest. “Surprise me, then.”
“Okay, I’ll buy you one of everything.”
“Silly.”
“We should go somewhere.” He inhaled a thoughtful breath. “Paris, maybe? Or Italy?”
“I would love that.”
“We could always sneak intoIl Segreto Casa.”
“What is that?”
“A private club, much like Chrysalis, but it’s in Milan. You and I have an open invitation. Scarlet’s a member.”
“Sounds wonderful.”
“It’s very much like the Carnival of Venice. The masquerade masks are exquisite and the parties are legendary.”
“Have you ever been?”
“That’s a very personal question.”
I tickled him and he squirmed beside me, grabbing my hands and holding them together at the wrists.
“You have.” I tried to pull free.
“I might have popped in for a Prosecco.” Seeing my confusion, he added, “A glass of wine.”
“Do people fuck in front of each other there?”
“Can’t remember.” He laughed when I slapped his arm. “Hey, that’s spousal abuse.”
“We’re not married yet.”
“It won’t be long now, and then you’ll have to get used to walking with a ball and chain around your ankle.”
This was good…he was still talking about us being married, and it gave me the hope I needed.
He played with a lock of my hair. “You’ve already chained my heart, Mia.”
“I love you so much.” I broke my gaze from his because his dark stare was too much to bear. “Sometimes it scares me.”
“What scares you about it?”
“It’s all so perfect.”
“Well, as long as you’re not scared of me.”
Dragging my teeth over my bottom lip, I gave him a look that hinted I still felt some wariness. There was more to Cameron than he’d shown me. I knew this from the tales Scarlet and Richard had shared. Or that rumor that had reached me of his infamous time at Chrysalis with Richard and Shay in tow. That legendary night when he’d revenge-fucked those pretty subs to get over McKenzie’s betrayal in the Harrington Suite.
He tipped up my chin. “I scare you?”
“You’re unpredictable.”
