Work was fantastic, my shares were skyrocketing, Mia seemed content again, and I was getting in some big brother time with Henry that’d we’d desperately needed—and for a change I was winning this Sunday afternoon squash match. He had booked a court at the Greenwich Country Club and this time we’d both been able to make it.
Another squash ball came flying at me, though this one struck my chest. I stepped back and drew in a sharp breath. That hurt.
If my brother needed any evidence that my skills had gotten rusty this was it, though he didn’t laugh. I preferred tennis, but this was Henry’s thing and so I’d caved. Spending time with him was worth the assault.
His racket fell to his side. “Why did you stop?”
Because I was hit by a ball going one hundred miles per hour, asshole.“Need a second.”
“You’re getting old, Cole.”
“Trying to keep up with you.”
He grinned. “Let’s take a break.”
“Sure.” I leaned against the wall and gently rubbed my chest.
“There’s something I want to talk with you about.” Henry had turned serious.
My gesture told him I was open to it.
“I’ve always known I have a kinky brother.” He smirked. “I saw those books at Uni you didn’t bother to hide.”
“I admit to a penchant for the extraordinary.”
His smile faded. “Tell me you never held Mia captive in a dungeon?”
Those words sliced through the air with a deadly tone. I hesitated and ran through what was safe to share. That sounded more like an accusation of wrongdoing than an inquiry.
“Cam, tell me you didn’t.”
It was best not to answer the potentially explosive question.
He came at me fast and shoved me back against the wall, pinning me there. “Tell me.”
“Henry!”
“Did you keep her locked up at Chrysalis?”
“What brought this on?” I broke free and stepped away from him. “This is not what you think.”
“What is it then?”
“Who have you been speaking with?” I ran through all the possible friends who could have betrayed me; so few knew.
“That sounds like ayesto me.”
“Has Shay been whispering in your ear?”
“I’m protecting my source. I thought you were going to damn well deny it.” He closed his eyes and then opened them again to glare at me. “If Richard was dating Mia, how come you ended up with her?”
From his tone I could tell he already knew the answer, so lying would be a bad move. “I trained her as a submissive for him.”
“Are you shitting me?”
“I’ve pulled back on this lifestyle,” I said, throwing my racket down.
The match was over.
