“We’re going to sleep together tonight.”
“As long as I have that, Mia, life is pretty fantastic.”
She sighed with happiness.
“New York’s a great place to study fashion,” I said.
“Or business.”
I flashed her a smile, despite knowing she couldn’t see it. “As soon as we get settled, I can arrange for you to interview at some of the top fashion houses.”
“Your dad’s offered me an intern position.”
“So I hear.”
“I’m considering it.”
“I may have an opening in my department. Right up there on the top floor of Cole Tower. It’s an impressive view. I’m looking for a dynamic recruit willing to take on extracurricular activities.”
“Which will include?”
“Being available at all times to consult with me on sensitive issues.”
“Such as?”
“You think I’m suggesting an executive assistant who I can throw over my desk?”
She giggled. “When can I start?”
“You’d have the option of moving into marketing.”
“So you can control the advertising?”
“Or you can become my executive advisor.”
“Would I get a car?”
“How about a helicopter? You can commute with me.”
“Oh my God.”
I smiled. “We’ll make it work.”
“Will I get an office?”
“If you like.”
“Near yours?”
“Most definitely.”
I steered us around a tight curve and she leaned into the turn.
“I’ll get to see you during the day,” she said. “My dream job.”
Glancing over, I was reassured she truly looked forward to this and I was comforted with the thought she’d be close. What I wanted more than anything was for her to be happy. “Don’t ever give up on your dream, Mia.”
“Scarlet told me that with you the world is my oyster.”
