The bidding continued to rise.

I focused my attention on one Bitcoin guy in particular, an Ivy League type who was surrounded by his cocaine-loving buddies. They were drinking and cheering him on. He’d have no idea how to handle a submissive of this caliber. Or any woman, I imagined.

My silent question as to whether Faulkner was allowing this was answered when he didn’t interrupt the bidding.

I eased through the crowd and worked my way up front, ignoring the glares from the Doms.

I closed in on Rue, towering over her. “We need to talk.”

She rose out of subspace. “You?”

“Come with me,” I said.

“Why?” Her tone was indignant.

“You’re being auctioned off to a stranger.”

“That’s why I’m here.”

In the ultimate tease, her bewitching perfume wafted around me. She was recklessly alluring, and I wasn’t so gone I couldn’t see she was too innocent for this place—too naive to be let loose amongst these hedonists.

I’d face off with Faulkner another day and dissuade him from ever doing this again—bringing a woman too young to a VIP venue.

I aimed for discretion.

Leaning into Rue, I said quietly, “You don’t belong here.”

“I do.” She met my gaze. “What do you want? Do I know you?”

“You’re out of your depth.”

She flinched. “Fuck off.”

“You’re coming with me,” I demanded. “Now.”

Faulkner interceded, stepping closer. “What’s going on?”

I threw out a lie. “I know her.”

“Is this true?” he asked her.

Rue’s irises twinkled with mischief. “The mask makes it impossible to say.”

“I need to talk with her,” I told him.

“Not going to happen,” he retorted.

Rue smirked. “Bid on me.”

Little minx.

Stepping back, I put some distance between us, relieved that Faulkner hadn’t recognized me. His disapproving glare caused others to turn my way, drawing unwanted attention that could get me thrown out.

I raised my hands in surrender, gesturing I wouldn’t cause trouble.

Rue watched me back away, seductively dragging her teeth over her bottom lip as though trying to entice me back.

She thought I was going to bid on her.
