“You want him back? Is that it?”

He looked surprised. “I’m not that much of a sadist.”

My face flushed brightly.

“Though I will say this, once Shay knows he can trust you, you’ll have his loyalty.” He looked thoughtful. “If he gives you more, cling to those moments. They don’t last.” De Sade stepped back and headed for the door. “If you need anything, little sparrow, I’ll be around.”

“I’ve never needed anything from anyone,” I called after him.

De Sade paused after opening the door, turning to look back at me, his gaze sweeping over me one final time.

And then he left.

I slumped back against the sofa as though I’d been hit by a lightning bolt.

I knew if De Sade couldn’t keep a man like Shay, I didn’t stand a chance.

Imade it back to Chrysalis in record time.

Having Rue there waiting for me felt exhilarating. I may not be a permanent fixture in her life, but we could explore a few of her fantasies—activities that would take my mind off these chaotic thoughts.

I’d self-analyzed and with some introspection felt prepared to give her over to another man for pleasure—because that’s what she’d asked for in her file. The specifics a turn on for any red-blooded Dom.

Taking her this morning in the breakfast room was the first time I’d been able to find some sense of peace in months. That was worth holding onto for a while.

A day or two, maybe.

Right up until the moment I’d have to let Rue disappear into the heart of her fantasies. Chrysalis was the place where erotic dreams came true.

She would fit right in.

I’d have her fitted for a new bodice for the ball—something spectacular. I’d never been more thrilled to show off a submissive as exquisite as her.

She’d never be mine, but we could play for a while.

Rue was by all accounts settling well into Chrysalis. Soon, she would be exposed to the hard-core activities that went on behind closed doors…the kind she wanted—a new level of debauchery.

Those filthy games were always enthralling.

For the rest of the day, I’d focus onherentirely.

Prepare her for more.

My team was keeping this place safe; although I still micromanaged. I’d hired the best and they had security covered—which meant I could indulge.

Strolling through the foyer, I glanced up at the hidden cameras. They weren’t in every room, but there were enough of them to monitor the movements of those inside. I’d replay the footage later and check to make sure our submissives were obeying the rules.

I headed down the hallway, and my back went stiff when I saw him.

Jake was leaving the library. My gut tightened in response.

He’d been in there.

Withher.

He saw me. There wasn’t even a hint of guilt on his devilishly handsome face. A surge of jealousy rushed through me as I walked toward him. That he’d even considered approaching Rue.

I stood in front of him to cut him off.
