Richard turned to Scarlet. “Prepare the Harrington Suite.”

I looked from one to the other. “You expect Faulkner to carry out the ritual where he hands her over willingly?”

“Yes,” said Richard.

“You offered him membership?” I said, only now putting the pieces together.

Scarlet looked at Richard with surprise. “Did he really say that? Faulkner’s agreed to give up Rue for membership at Chrysalis?”

“He did.” Richard’s gaze met my own. “It’s settled then?”

“How could anyone in their right mind give her up?” I felt a pang of truth in that statement.

Scarlet gave me a kind smile, as though sayingexactly.

Shay reappeared in the doorway.

Resting my head against the back of the tub, I admired how ruggedly handsome he looked. I was consistently struck by his powerful presence.

I was suddenly hit with the realization that he knew how to give me everything I’d ever needed.

He knew how to satisfy my desires.

Shay pushed off the doorjamb and came closer.

The tension between us felt dangerously alluring.

“Dinner will be served in your room,” he said. “I will also allow a glass of wine.”

“I’m just going to stay in here until I wrinkle up.”

Shay towered over me. “Out.”

“No.”

No matter how attractive those men were at Imperial, I’d always be thinking of Shay.

“Don’t question me,” he snapped.

Aroused by his sternness, I pushed up until I was standing before him naked and dripping wet…soapsuds kissing my body, bubbles sliding over my left breast—which he seemed to notice.

He grabbed a towel. “We’ve decided.”

Uneasiness slithered up my spine. “I refuse.”

“Your punishment will be severe if you continue to defy me, Rue.”

His harsh words made me giddy with want.

“Obey,” he said gruffly.

With a nod, I stepped out and turned, letting him wrap the towel around me. He dried me off and my body shuddered beneath the smoothness of the towel and the firmness of his touch.

“Who, then?” I said softly. “Is it the man you mentioned?”

“The one you want.”

I spun around and peered up at him, my heart hammering in my chest because what he was insinuating was too good to be true.
