Saving one life but taking another. I killed that stalking lion.

“We survived it,” I whispered.

“Shay?”

A part of us would always be left in that country…a part of our soul.

My soul.

“What do you remember?” he said softly.

I gave him a look that told him I’d been prepared to die for him.

Henry shook his head. Words weren’t needed between us.

We sat quietly for a while, people watching, taking in the crowds that came and went around the bar.

“Cameron still feels bad about how I left Afghanistan,” Henry said. “He’s just in need of therapy.”

“I think he sees someone.”

“No harm in it, right?” Henry studied me.

“Cameron did what he had to do for you, debriefed you. He was the right man to be brought in, although his bedside manor leaves a lot to be desired.”

And it had been Mia who’d persuaded Henry to leave that cabin in Big Bear and rejoin society.

“Let’s change the subject,” Henry said gently.

“Sure.”

“Does Cameron still…?” Henry waited for my response.

“You always were a loyal bastard.”

“He deserves it.”

“He’s my younger brother and it’s hard to see him any other way.”

I decided to change the subject again. “How’s the business world?”

“I have a few ideas about where I want to take Cole Tea.”

“I look forward to hearing more.”

He leaned forward. “Want another?”

I glanced at my near-empty glass. “I have a thing tonight.”

“Thing?” He arched a brow. “Oh, a thing, thing.”

Henry was open-minded but me sharing the “deets” would probably push him over the edge.
