Richard was leaning on the doorjamb ofhisoffice.
“Hey.” I sat back.
He knocked on the door, even after seeing me. “Can I come in?”
I liked “considerate Richard,” the guy who’d slowed down since meeting Andrea.
“I’ve located Darryn,” I told him.
He approached the desk. “Really, where?”
“North Hollywood.”
“Are you going to pay him a visit?”
“I will, yes.”
“Any idea who his target is?” Richard waited for my response. “Not me, is it?”
I shook my head. “Still looking into it.”
I’d not told a lie—it was more of a delay tactic. They’d hired me to deal with threats so they didn’t have to.
Richard studied me. “He’s not after Andrea, is he?”
“Not as far as I can tell.”
“You’ll keep me updated?”
“Absolutely,” I said, smiling. “Can you arrange for Rue to visit the spa?”
Richard grinned back at me. “You’re spoiling her? Has she done anything that warrants a massage?”
“She has to put up with me.”
Richard gave a nod as he headed out. I trusted him to make it happen.
I worked for another hour, up until hunger got the better of me. I stood and stretched, then made my way toward the kitchen.
I was glad to find the place empty.
It meant I could take the time to think everything over during a quick lunch. Rue was right—I needed to pay more attention to my diet. To everything, really. In that respect she was a great influence.
Opening the fridge door, I tried to figure out what I was craving.
The chefs at Chrysalis always made sure our kitchen’s fridge was well-stocked. It meant staff and guests could enjoy flavorful meals and snacks in between the dining room’s hours of operation.
Reaching in, I went for the chicken pasta. I could almost taste the pesto sauce. I brought the bowl over to the kitchen counter and scooped some onto a plate, popping it into the microwave.
“Thank goodness I found you,” a female voice said from behind me.
I pivoted and looked over at Lotte who was standing just inside the kitchen door.
I took the plate out of the microwave and set it down. “Hey, Lotte.”
“Carrie Quinn’s here”
I smirked. “She wants to join us. Get her membership ready.”
