“I don’t have a problem.” I looked away, trying to find the words.
My stomach clenched with dread.
“You have to be the one to say it,” he reasoned.
Turning my épée in a circle, I thought about how to express my feelings. “I don’t want anyone to touch my submissive tonight.”
He gave me a kind smile. “That’s a problem because…”
“That’s her kink.”
“You gave her time at Imperial. Maybe she got it out of her system.”
“She’s fascinated with the scene.”
“That was before she fell for you, Shay.”
I shook my head. “I have no right to dictate what she does.”
“Do you want to?”
“I don’t think we’re heading in that direction.”
“Rue is drawn to someone she has chemistry with,” he said. “I saw the way she looked at you at Enthrall.”
I blinked at him. “What am I meant to do with that information?”
He laughed. “You tell me.”
“Look, this is trivial compared to why I’m here.”
“Okay, let’s change the subject, if that feels safer.”
“It’s not that.”
“I’m here. I will make time for you, Shay. You know that.”
“You have a corporate spy at Cole Tea.”
He’d been about to take another drink of water, but he paused.
“Darryn Amara was part of that corporate attack,” I said. “He was hired to photograph you at Enthrall by a major competitor.”
His expression remained surprisingly calm.
“I observed no photos of you on his phone when I examined it.”
“He let you?”
“Didn’t give him a choice. Anyway, he’s contained. For now.”
“I’ll call Henry.”
“I’ll forward you the info I have so far.”
“I would appreciate that.”
“We’ll increase your personal security. No more letting guards off for the evening.”
