From this vantage point, the ocean view looked spectacular. Malibu’s coastline was endless and vast and the sight of the vivid blue seascape was a welcome change from desert browns.

If I had binoculars, I’d be able to see the land I’d once dreamed of owning. It made me wonder if Booth had any idea how hard this was for me.

Richard had avoided revealing the reason we were here, but I knew…

We needed somewhere private to talk—just not his place, apparently, which was a fifteen-minute drive away.

I’d broken the cardinal rule of Chrysalis.

There was no coming back from that.

I stepped closer to the cliff’s edge, seeing a sandy pathway to my right that led down to a golden beach.

If I was alone, I’d kick off my shoes and head down to the cold water to soak my feet.

A car door slammed behind me.

Thetalk was coming.

When Richard joined me, I could instantly feel the tension between us.

I turned to face him and read his expression, trying to figure out how to make this easier on both of us.

On the way here, we’d discussed everything from how well the New York Giants were doing this season to how he was looking forward to flying off to Italy to reunite with Andrea. The one subject we had avoided was me removing a submissive from Chrysalis.

It was a bad look all around—their head of security being the one to break the rules.

For God’s sake, I’d fire me.

Richard stood next to me looking out at the blue ocean. “Nice.”

“You want to do it here?” I asked, hoping that nudge would get him to start so we could get this over with.

“Do it here?” he said, sarcasm in his tone. “In the middle of nowhere?”

“We could have done this at your place.”

“And be seen with you?” He shook his head. “Fuck, no.”

Really? What an asshole.

I looked east. “You’re up there, right?”

“That’s right.”

“I fucked up,” I finally admitted. “I know that.”

“Do you, though?” he said sourly.

“Are you going to tell me what the consequences are?”

“We’re waiting on someone.”

My shoulders slumped; the last thing I needed to see was disappointment in Cole.

“Have you ever readStory of O?”asked Richard.

“What?”
