It was the most incredible gift I’d ever been given. Cole knew I wouldn’t have accepted it any other way.
“I’m out of a job, though. Did they tell you?”
“You didn’t get the offer?”
“Offer?”
“Cole Tea wants to hire you as a consultant. We want to be CloudSource’s first company. That alone will give you what you need to take your business global, with us on your resume as a major client, right?”
“Can I think about it?”
He looked surprised. “Do you really need to?”
“I don’t want to take advantage of friends.”
He rubbed his jaw, looking thoughtful. “Shay, you’re not even working for Cole Tea and you discovered a breach in our company. That’s how good you are.”
A million thoughts raced through my mind.
He beamed at me. “We want to welcome you to the family.Again.Only this time on my side of things.”
I’d always been made welcome. The entire family had made me feel like one of them.
Henry’s expression turned solemn. “We need you to find him.”
“Your spy?” I said. “Could be a woman.”
“True.”
“I can do that.”
“The photojournalist, Darryn Amara, won’t he let our enemy know they are exposed?”
“We paid him well. If he breaches the non-disclosure he’s screwed. We can send him to prison.”
“You trust him?”
I sat back, thinking. “Time will tell.”
I recalled what Darryn had told me at the diner—that a rival company was tracking all members of the Cole family. He’d also revealed a Trojan horse had been sent into Cole Tea’s L.A. office.
A week ago, I’d written up the report and handed it over to Cole.
“Cameron’s been selfishly holding on to you for too long.” Henry’s gaze met mine. “Untangle this mess for us.”
“I will certainly try.”
“We appreciate it.” He looked out the window toward where Cameron and Richard were talking. “You can begin building here whenever you like.”
“It’s beyond generous.”
“You’ve saved our asses so many times, Gardner. I was beginning to doubt you had any faults. Though apparently, you do.”
“Rue?”
“Stupid fucking rules.” He smirked.
“They told you, then? What happened at Chrysalis’ ball? That I whisked her out of there?”
