“I’d have done the same thing.”
“Still, rules are rules.”
“When something doesn’t go our way there’s usually something better waiting on the other side.”
I recalled Lotte saying something like that. Maybe, just maybe, I’d introduce them one day.
“Thank you for coming all the way out here.”
He looked shocked. “You literally saved my life, Shay!”
I shook my head. “You had it.”
“Had what?”
“The situation.”
“Which I understand is hard to talk about.”
“It’s forgotten, Henry.”
“Before you come work for me…”
“Sign a contract? Of course.”
“Well, yes, but something else.”
“What do you need from me?”
“One therapy session with my brother. Just one. It’s worth considering.”
“Is the job contingent on it?”
“Humor me.”
I glanced over at Cameron. “Sure.”
He reached out and offered his hand. “Welcome aboard.”
We shook on the future.
My world didn’t feel so upside-down anymore.
“Do me one more favor,” said Henry.
“Another?”
“Don’t use Cameron’s interior decorator. He literally installed a chandelier that looks like a cock in his Beverly Hills home.”
I laughed. “Good advice.”
“You have one more stop, I hear?”
“Really? They didn’t tell me that.”
“Good luck.”
After saying goodbye to Henry, I exited the car and strolled back toward Cameron and Richard. They’d migrated toward the edge of the hill and were admiring the view.
