I patted his head. “Hey, boy.”
“Chloe,” Cameron corrected me.
“Hey, Chloe.” I straightened.
It was good to see him. God, I missed working with this man.
Cameron’s mind was constantly processing everything around him.
“Does Carrie know she’s a problem sub?” he asked.
Yeah, nothing got by him.
“She asked me to extract Rue from Pendulum.”
Cameron cringed.
“Rue and I haven’t discussed the details of why she was there.”
“Yet.”
Which was his way of encouraging me to have that conversation.
“If she needs to talk,” he said. “I’m here.”
“Not necessary.”
“How the hell did she get into Pendulum?”
“She was there with Faulkner.”
“That makes things interesting.”
“I wore a masquerade mask. No one saw me.”
“Carrie reached out to you?”
“Yes, she summoned me to her office downtown.”
“She assumed you could get into Pendulum?” He looked annoyed. “Someone told her about you. Find out who it was.”
“I intend to.”
He shrugged. “Want to come in?”
“We shouldn’t.”
“What’s the plan?”
“I’m trying to figure out where to take Rue tonight.”
“You considered us?”
“Before coming to my senses.”
“What about Carrie’s place?”
“She’s on her way to D.C.”
