She traced her fingers over it. “My master.”

Of course, Kaison Faulkner had made a contingency plan. He was a lawyer and a good one at that. He could accuse me of kidnapping.

Faulkner also knew her value in the scene. A beauty like this would garner all kinds of favors for him. If he loaned her out. Placing a tracker in her wristwatch would have been a decision made before taking her to Pendulum.

Because of the danger there.

Fucker.

“How do you know him again?” I asked.

“He’s one of the guest Doms at Majestic.”

A house where newbies went to learn about the scene. Kaison had probably seen her from across the room and wanted her immediately.

We were flashed again by headlights.

Carefully, I navigated the car off the PCH and onto the strip of asphalt reserved for Gladstones parking, a beachside restaurant that would be closed by now. I could try to lose him, but he might be so full of rage he’d attempt to run us off the road.

Rue studied me. “Why are we pulling over?”

I put the car in park. “Faulkner.”

“He followed us?”

“Yes.”

She turned to look back at his car. “How?”

“Stay here.” I got out of the car to confront him.

He was already out of his Lexus—his tuxedo disheveled, a pissed off expression matching his swagger.

We both kept our headlights on to illuminate the setting where shit was about to go down.

Waves crashed on the rocks nearby.

This place was a popular venue for lunch, followed by a walk along the beach afterwards. Now, the parking lot was deserted.

With a click of my fob, I locked Rue in the car and then continued toward Kaison.

“You were the plague doctor?” he said brashly.

“Have no idea what you’re talking about,” I answered casually.

“You have my submissive.”

“She’s taking a break.”

“Didn’t know you were a member of Pendulum.”

“This is a dangerous road, Kaison.” I glanced back at the PCH. “People die on this highway.”

“I’ve been tracking you.”

“Correction, you’ve been tracking Rue. It was a cheap trick to put it in her watch. She doesn’t know you’re following her. That’s unethical.”

“Can never be too careful.”
