“I will follow you all damn night if that’s what it takes.”
Exasperated, I weighed how much of a pain he’d be if I didn’t placate him.
With a reluctant nod, I unlocked the car with a click of my key fob and gestured for Rue to join us. “You have five minutes,” I told him.
Rue shoved open the car door and slid out of the passenger seat. She hurried over to us. A twinge of jealousy hit me when Kaison dipped his head and kissed her as she leaned into him.
“You okay, babe?” he asked.
She looked up at him with affection. “I’m fine.”
He hugged her. “What’s going on?”
Rue looked at me. “Am I in trouble?”
Kaison forced a smile. “Getting back into Pendulum might not happen.”
“That’s a tragedy,” I mumbled.
“Why?” she said, clearly upset.
“Leaving the way you did reflects badly on me,” said Kaison.
Rue let out an exasperated sigh. “I have to go with Mr. Boring here.”
Faulkner looked amused. “You don’t know who he is?”
She turned to look up at me. “Who are you?”
Faulkner answered for me. “Shay Gardner. Head of security for Enthrall. And a Dominant.”
She blushed as she studied me carefully.
“Yes,” he said. “Only he doesn’t train subs. He just uses them and throws them away.”
That made me angry but I didn’t show it.
Kaison looked triumphant. “Subs crave him but soon learn a lesson.”
“And why is any of this important?” I said.
We both knew why; because he thought I was moving in on his submissive. He was trying to let her know I was a bad match for her, that things would turn out unpleasant.
He wasn’t wrong.
“Come on, baby,” he said. “Let me take you home.”
“She’s coming with me,” I said.
“Don’t I get a say?” Her long lashes fluttered at him.
I ran through all the reasons why this wasn’t my problem.
But Kaison would probably take her back to Pendulum if I didn’t intercede.
“Get in the car,” I said.
Rue chewed her lip thoughtfully. “You have to ask permission from my master.”
