At the time I’d told him it was on a need-to-know basis—mainly to protect him from any fallout.

“You weren’t there for pleasure?” He studied my reaction.

“No.”

Richard sat back. “Will you be going back?”

“No.”

“Didn’t want to say it at the time, but you’re high-profile.”

“I wore a plague doctor mask.”

“Nice.”

Then I recalled Faulkner. “One other person knows I was there. I can handle him.”

“Okay, well if you need anything more just tell me.”

“I appreciate that.”

Richard turned back to his computer screen. I assumed he was worrying about our stalking photographer.

“It’s time to build that fence around the property,” I said.

“Cosmetically it won’t look good.”

“We can get Scarlet on it. She has superb taste.”

“Maybe an iron gate.” He relaxed a little as though relieved to find a way to secure Enthrall without threatening the looks of the exterior.

Having our security compromised was a nightmare. We assured everyone the utmost privacy. Our clients were too important for us to fail them.

“How’s Andrea?” I asked.

“Great, she’s filming in Italy. I fly out in a couple of weeks to join her.”

“You’re always taking vacations.”

“Making up for lost time.” He grinned.

Being married to a Hollywood sweetheart suited him. I’d never seen him so consistently happy.

“How are you, really?” he asked.

“Great.”

He didn’t look convinced, peering over his mug to study me. “Have you spoken with him?”

Richard was talking about Jake, aka De Sade. He could tell my breakup with him was still affecting me.

“Haven’t given him much thought,” I lied.

“He still cares about you.”

“Why are we talking about him?”

Richard hesitated and then said, “He’s here.”
