Iwas on time.

My canvas duffle bag had been packed for a week-long immersion. I’d chosen a few bodices that I thought might work, along with my best underwear of lace and silk.

I’d brought my best attitude, too. I was going to rock this week and come out as a permanent member of Enthrall—win my place alongside the other elite submissives. Money couldn’t get me in because it was way out of my league, but being chosen as one of the first-class novices was a possibility.

Per the instructions, a chauffeur-driven SUV had picked me up from my apartment and brought me here. The driver had taken the long way instead of a direct route. Something had told me he had used defensive tactics to make sure we weren’t being followed.

Perhaps just in case someone from Majestic—or even Kaison Faulkner—was keeping track of me.

Shay had advised me to wear a cocktail dress, something suitable for a black-tie event, which had intrigued me. Though I knew a first impression was everything.

Finally, I found myself within the walls of Enthrall after being dropped off discretely at the side entrance.

I’d gone with my Dolce and Gabbana feathered mini-cocktail dress in the hope of impressing my new Dom. The man with the fire in his belly.

The hottest master I’d ever met.

I couldn’t wait to see Shay again…have him guide me. I’d been unable to think about anything else since I’d seen him at the ER on Friday—the day he invited me here.

The day my life changed.

The thought of entering a dungeon with him made my skin feel hot.

With my hair tumbling around my shoulders and makeup highlighting my features, I felt pretty—and ready for anything he might ask of me.

I’d spent the last hour with Mistress Lotte, signing forms and going over my limits.

Afterward, I’d been told to wait in the staff lounge. The swanky décor of blue velvet couches and comfy bright colored chairs lent a luxurious, relaxed air to the place.

I remained standing in the center of the room, waiting.

My chest tingled with excitement for what would come next as I waited in an elite club that everyone in our community coveted. If you weren’t connected or invited, there was no getting in.

The lounge door opened.

In walked Shay, looking all kinds of masterful in a tailored suit and tie and silver cufflinks. His beard complemented his rugged suaveness.

I did my best to hide my reaction—the way he made me shudder, the way he made my skin tingle.

My imagination flourished with thrilling ideas of what might happen.

Shay merely took in the room and me with it. Probably to make sure we were alone.

He kept his distance.

I wanted him to kiss me for the first time and was terrified he wouldn’t. That stark contradiction proving all thoughts led back to him.

Second guessing myself…

Dropping to my knees, I bowed my head, the skirt of my dress billowing around me. The small petals that decorated the material were something I could focus on.

I felt a frisson of anticipation marking this moment as I waited for him to come closer.

The silence made me uneasy. He was merely standing before me, not saying anything, his hands tucked into his trouser pockets, as though assessing.

“Look at me,” he finally said.

I peered up searching for a cue.
