I heard the sound of running water.

“Fucking hell!” Henry grumbled.

I turned to check on him.

His face was contorted in agony as he stood beneath the running water.

“Maybe it will warm up?” I said, trying to be optimistic.

“Assuming anything will improve around here is asinine.”

“Well, the view’s improved.” I smirked.

“Get naked,” he said gruffly.

I dragged my shirt over my head and then slipped off my shoes, climbing out of my pants and throwing everything into the corner. I tried to forget how bad everything smelled from us sweating all day.

And great…my change of clothes was in my stolen backpack.

“A cold shower is good for your immunity,” I reasoned.

“You always see the bright side.”

“Can I borrow something to wear while I wash those?” I pointed to my discarded clothes.

“Sure.” He stared at my nakedness, his lips quirking in approval.

Taking the shower next to his, I stepped forward and twisted the faucet on, bracing myself.

Cold water hit me, my teeth clenching as I endured what felt like falling icicles.

“The water’s pumped in from the ground,” he said. “I’m not so sure it’s ecologically friendly.”

I continued to inhale sharply as the frigid water splashed over my flesh, goose bumps forming on my arms.

We’d gone from intense heat to arctic temps.

I finally acclimated enough to the cold to press the pump dispenser for a glob of creamy gel, lathering my body.

Henry glanced over, seemingly just as fascinated with my nakedness, raking his teeth over his bottom lip as he admired what he saw.

Both of us kept stealing glances.

I rested both hands against the wall. “What can I do?”

“About what?”

I straightened. “You don’t get to resurrect your wall just because you’re hurting. You need to let me in.”

“Honestly?” he said.

“Yes, I want honesty.”

“You deserve better than a revenge fuck.”

“Is that what it would be?”

He went quiet.
