I reached into the cupboard for two plates. “But?”
“Is he a boyfriend?”
“No.” I fished the cartons of Indian food out of the paper bag and smiled when I saw the bread. “Garlic naan is my favorite.”
“I thought Chinese is your favorite?”
“I guessed it was yours.”
“Why?”
I watched his reaction. “Cameron told me your favorite city is Hong Kong.”
“Why would he tell you that?”
“I was fishing for subjects that would impress you.” For some reason I had no trouble telling Henry that.
I opened a cabinet and brought out my best vase made of handspun glass. After filling it with water, I arranged the gorgeous roses and set them as a centerpiece on the marble countertop.
“Wow.” Henry reacted to a painting on the kitchen wall that had a deep red background with a vintage golden chandelier in the center. The twinkling crystals majestically reflected the light.
“One of mine.” I raised a playful shoulder.
“You painted that?”
“I told you I love to paint.”
“Yes, but you didn’t say how good you are.” Impressed, he neared the canvas and studied it closer. “This is spectacular.”
“It’s my homage to Enthrall.”
He thought on that. “Your entire life is wrapped up in that place. And Chrysalis.”
“It really is.”
His gentle smile revealed that he knew how hard leaving there would be for me.
I changed the subject. “I’d love to see your art.”
He tapped the central island. “My possessions just came out of storage and are currently being unpacked at home.”
“And your paintings?”
“Those too.”
“I’m glad.” Hearing he was settling in made me happy. “Tea?”
Henry walked toward the fridge. “How about champagne?”
“I have some.”
“You seem like the kind of woman who loves to celebrate.”
“I do?”
“You’re beautiful and sophisticated. A woman like that has a lot going on.”
“Thank you.”
