Enthrall’s shadow.
Me, the quieter dominatrix—ruling right alongside Richard, but we all knew he had the final say.
Now I was being given an opportunity to make a name for myself. To honor my profession and stand proudly beside these alphas.
My thoughts raced with how I could protect their submissives. Ensure Pendulum’s reputation of respecting a woman’s sexual autonomy.
Amongst all these lions, I could be Queen.
“Amelia is from Pendulum?” I asked.
“A gift to me,” clarified de Sade, “upon closing the contract.”
“A gift?” I said breathlessly.
What kind of a place would they rule over?
“The contract is signed?” said Richard, realizing.
“I’ll throw in a sweetener for you,” added de Sade.
I wasn’t going to do it. Of course, I wasn’t. But it was fun to hear what they considered my worth to be.
“I’ll throw in thirty million in Bitcoin,” said de Sade calmly.
“Jake,” said Richard. “She’s not bribable.”
My throat tightened as I replayed Jake’s words.
“Let her think about it,” he suggested.
“She doesn’t need to,” said Richard.
“Of course not,” I said. “I’m flattered though.”
De Sade pointed to my wrist. “Keep the Rolex.”
I slid off the watch and set it back in the fancy box. “Maybe Rylee would like it?”
“What you’re suggesting,” he said, “wouldn’t work. Rylee’s not experienced enough. She’s too fiery. She’d fucking burn the place down the first week.”
Because Rylee didn’t take shit from anyone.
I, on the other hand, was more tolerant. Cooler heads would prevail, and all that, which was my reputation at Enthrall. It made sense de Sade would pluck me out of there because he trusted my temperament.
We had always gotten along, and that kind of trust took years to build.
“Will you excuse me?” I pushed up and turned back to the doorway that led inside the house. “Restroom?”
De Sade pointed left. “Three doors down.”
“Thank you.” I couldn’t make eye contact with Richard because I knew he was furious. I’d hesitated a second ago.
Couldn’t a girl just fantasize for a minute about making that kind of money? Richard and Cameron were wealthy beyond imagination. They’d never experienced having to deal with student loans or balancing a budget. Never had to worry about coming up with thousands to fix your car if it broke down, along with any other financial crisis.
They paid me well at Enthrall, but not the kind of money de Sade was offering.
Inside the restroom, I admired the continued theme of luxury. The scent of vanilla was probably his sense of humor at play. De Sade’s sexual taste was so far away from these shades of vanilla. That level didn’t exist in his stratosphere.
