I hated him for it.
What I had with Henry felt sacred and I didn’t want my body to betray me.
Jake oozed sensuality. “He can’t satisfy your kinky side.”
Placing my hands on his chest, I tried to push him away.
He didn’t move. “Charlotte, you require a qualified master to bring you to your knees.”
“Step back.”
“Consider my offer.”
“Okay, I will.” Though I already knew my answer.
He lifted his hands off the wall. “The others, they want you for this as much as me. We need you. Don’t give up this great opportunity.”
“I am grateful. Tell them that.”
He tipped up my chin and leaned in, his lips dangerously close. “Tell me what you want to make this happen.”
“You can step back for a start.”
He reached into his pocket and pulled out the Rolex. Grabbing my wrist, he slid it back on roughly, being cruel and yet dangerously compelling. I was unable to pull my wrist out of his grip. He was too damn strong, and too damn controlling as he clipped it in place.
“It looks pretty on you. Keep it.”
“Your love language is buying gifts for people,” I told him. “You need to be loved for who you are and not what you can do for people.”
He flashed a grin, but it carried an edge of doubt.
“De Sade, it’s me.” These games he played wouldn’t fly.
“You have forty-eight hours to decide.” He stepped back and walked away. “Then the offer is off the table.”
Asshole.
He’d always been the bad boy of Chrysalis.
Cameron had tolerated him because he knew de Sade was willing to go all the way for those who needed it. Cameron could be just as dark, but de Sade had this otherworldly level of cruelty.
Watching him walk away, I admired his butt. Taking whatIwanted from this moment.
Taking my fucking power back.
If I did accept his offer—theiroffer—I’d have to tackle the trifecta of sinister alphas. Maybe he’d believed I’d say yes. That his offer would be impossible to turn down and right about now I’d be joining Grantchester and Sinclair, all of us downing champagne to celebrate.
Following de Sade down the hallway, I saw him lean over the balcony again. This time he shook his head at his friends, conveying my answer to them.
Richard stood on the balcony beside him. He glanced back at me, his expression reflecting what I’d guessed.
Amelia wasn’t in the room.
Didn’t take a genius to guess where she had gone. Did I really want to see what de Sade had in mind for her? I wasn’t sure.
“Come watch.” On seeing my hesitation, de Sade snapped, “Or I’ll have them fuck her at the same time.”
I glowered at him.
