“It’s fine,” I said. “This time.”

She dropped her hand and kept her back to me. I noticed she was holding an envelope.

An intern, maybe?

But she had severely missed the mark on business attire, wearing jeans and a red FSU sweater that hinted she hailed from out of state.

She’d also missed theExecutives Onlysign on the panel beside the call button.

Pivoting to face me, she asked, “You’re the CEO?”

“I am.”

Her face seemed familiar. “Have we met?” I said.

“Thank goodness.” She faced me and reached out to shake hands in an act of boldness. “I’m Lilly.”

I stared down at her hand, refusing to take it.

She dropped it back to her side.

Touching a stranger in close proximity was a bad idea.

Unless…

She’d infiltrated us as a spy to get closer to me.

My patience was wearing thin. Having to use extra caution with every interaction was getting tedious.

Even this stranger, who at first appeared too young to be given any kind of great responsibility, could be a hazard.

Paranoia had been thrown into the mix.

That’s where I’d landed since Shay had delivered the news about a threat to my company. I needed it dealt with.

I needed out of this elevator.

I punched the red button and it lit up.

Then went out.
