I wasn’t such a bastard that I couldn’t make someone feel better about their mistake—or mine—by changing the subject.

“Fit for a dominatrix,” I said. “The queen of Chrysalis.”

“I’m flattered.”

She knew I needed her not to makea thingout of my thing.

She raised her chin with pride. “This is where I get to lord over the chamber.”

“We worship at your feet?” I grinned to lighten the mood.

She made her way over to the throne, elegantly turning to sit on the velvet cushion and resting her hands on the carved wooden armrests.

I folded my arms across my chest. “That’s the tamest thing in here.”

“You think so?” She waggled her brows.

Okay then.

I got its significance: her lover would kneel on the cushion before her and pleasure her with oral sex.

I imagined myself kneeling between her thighs doing just that. I felt drawn to her, captivated by her soft scent. It was like a drug was being piped in to render her victim powerless—the mood all kinds of erotic.

Seeing my stare, she pouted, her mouth dangerously inviting.

It would be easy to wander over there and kiss her. Maybe I would if she gave me a signal that she wanted me to. My body ached with the desire to bury myself inside her.

I wanted to inhale her scent, kiss her pale throat, and then glide downward between her thighs to taste herthere.

She threw her head back and moaned as though she was in my fantasy; whimpering as though I’d made her come.

The mesmerizing fantasy was just out of reach.

Falling for a woman like her would be a disaster. I had my reputation to protect. She’d be a scandal in the making. But, God, how I wanted her.

I’d had too many drinks to make this kind of decision.

“I should go.” I stepped back towards the door.

Lotte snapped her thighs together. “Too much?”

“No, very educational.” I gave her a formal nod. “You’ve been the consummate hostess.”

“Henry, this is nothing compared to the party you crashed!”

“Totally agree.” I raised my hand. “I can find my own way out—can’t exactly be seen with you.”

Her face fell.

I’d offended her.

Clearly an extraordinary woman, but this was the kind of addiction I didn’t want in my life.

One taste of her and I’d be lost.

All this sensuality had me rethinking why I was here. The point, I suppose. This room had been created with an atmosphere to invite surrender.

To her.
