Afew minutes ago, Rylee had strolled out of this dark chamber with an elegant sway of her hips.

She’d turned back to me with a look of affection.

We’d always gotten along, which was why I felt protective of her when de Sade went full on with his devilry.

Rylee didn’t seem to mind. She encouraged it, for the most part. Both of them were bi and enjoyed all the elements of swapping partners.

I was surprisingly old-fashioned when it came to love.

Before she’d left, I’d slid the Rolex off my wrist and onto Rylee’s, giving de Sade’s gift back through her.

I couldn’t keep it.

Rylee had told me she understood why and that I should take more time to consider joining them at Pendulum—a decision that would be difficult because Cameron wouldn’t approve.

Richard handled it well. He knew better, of course. Keeping Grantchester, Sinclair, and de Sade close would be best for Chrysalis.

I’d also loaned Rylee my blonde wig for the evening. Both of us were wearing the same headdress, along with the same bustier and thong—the uniform for a Chrysalis dominatrix. We could be twins.

Only I’d chosen to wear my hair naturally short; no disguise there.

Rylee had spent the late afternoon preparing our submissives, making sure our fifty or so B&D graduates were dressed to Chrysalis’ standard.

She’d left me to continue our tradition, all of them waiting for my next command.

They’d had their makeup done, even though many of them might be hiding their faces behind strips of lace. Rylee had also arranged hairstylists for them. They’d experienced a full day of pampering, from massages to assistants to help them dress.

Before they set off into the manor it was my job to inspect them.

Obediently, all the half-naked submissives lined up so I could check each one.

Keeping busy helped distract me from thoughts of seeing Reese at Truffles, draped on Henry’s arm yesterday.

I felt my stomach clinch as my mind flashed back to it.

I shouldn’t have to fight for a man who wasn’t willing to fight for me.

Henry was no different.

If he needed to get Reese out of his system and sleep with her to check his feelings, well, that was a hardnofor me.

I’d cultivated enough self-respect never to compromise.

But I needed to talk with him about it. I wasn’t into condemning a man before he’d been heard.

Communication was everything.

So why the hell had I refused to text him back?

Because in my heart I knew we were an impossible match.

“Mistress Lotte?” came a quiet voice.

The submissives were waiting for me to stop daydreaming.

Strolling along the line, I tipped up the occasional chin of a sub and tweaked a nipple here and there. If I thought the ingénue would benefit from it, I whipped a butt cheek to make them focus.

This erotic vision of our lovelies was an extraordinary gift.
