It caused me to shiver.
“On your knees,” he said quietly.
Another spike of arousal hit me at hearing his command and my body responded with a tremble.
Then came the hurt as I remembered what I’d seen yesterday—he and Reese sitting in a booth at Truffles, her daughter with them. Recalling Henry’s reaction to the way Reese draped herself over his arm.
Their closeness didn’t inspire trust.
It made me wonder how much time he had been spending with her, maybe to regain ground on their turbulent friendship.
Were they sleeping together?
Jealousy formed a wedge between my need for him and my heart’s desire not to be destroyed.
“Submit,” he growled.
“Yousubmit.”
“That’s not who I am.”
“Let’s discuss this at your place.”
Henry walked out, still in character, his Alpha swagger intriguing but also terrifying because he’d set off roaming.
Pulling on my masquerade mask to cover my face, I followed him out into the hallway.
White clouds of fog swirled around his feet, making him look like an eighteenth-century hero heading over the moors.
I’d fallen for him.
I was head over heels for this tall, gorgeous, arrogant man and trancing out at the mere sight of him.
My whip slipped from my hand as I snapped out of this dreamlike state, hurrying after him.
He peered up at the main foyer’s chandelier before quickly ascending the central staircase, taking two steps at a time.
At the top, he did a quick pivot as though to see if I was following. Confirming I was, he continued to trek along the second-floor mezzanine.
If he entered any one of those rooms he’d step into high kink.
Holy hell.
He had no idea what he might walk into.
I took off after him up the central staircase, trying not to alert anyone. Each door was guarded by a Dom, but that pin on his lapel would gain him access.
After all, no one entered Chrysalis without the password. If you did manage to get through the main gate, when you made it to the front door, you’d have to pass the retinal scanner to step into the manor.
If you were in here, you belonged.
Which was why the tuxedo-clad guard let him into the most decadent of chambers.
Henry disappeared inside the Highgrove Suite.
Ientered the room right behind Henry—stepping into the lion’s den.
We were met by the whispers of thirty or more guests dressed to the nines. They’d respectfully gathered for this session. There was a reason this scene had to be well-guarded.
